I've been working over the last couple of months to create a video series on how to play Dragon Diceā¢. I've been attempting to get my kids involved, but they've had a tough time grasping the basics.
I've finished the introductory video, with others planned. Thought some folks might enjoy what I've put together: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrjCmO778JQ2kIQqWNN3y1A

Some initial reactions.
The quality is much better than most of the fan based videos that are out there. Even though the pacing is a slight bit slow for me, the video is well put together. As a fan based piece of video, it is great. There are some things that would have to change if I were making an official one (but I wouldn't mind discussing that privately with you)
The initial negativity doesn't thrill me as some people would choose to stop right there. I don't disagree with anything that you said, but if the goal is to get people into the game, I don't know that I'd start by airing all the dirty laundry.
I'd prefer something based on our new starter rule book where as this seems to be based off the older one. I think that is an easier way to learn the game.
The combination of artwork concerns me. There is our artwork (which I'm curious where you found some of them), mixed in with fan based art that I recognize (but is not 'official' lore) and professional art which I don't (but suspect it is not public domain). I'd hate for someone to think you are implying all that art is owned by SFR.
Finally, the images of players are probably on google, but that doesn't imply that it is in the public domain.
In summary, I LOVE what you are able to do and I'd like to discuss using your skills with my guidance on script and content in making an "official" how to video. Something like that would benefit us both. _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

Thanks for the feedback. Being fairly new to the game, I was curious what the veteran community would think. I hadn't anticipated the first response would be from one of the creative minds of the company; that is a positive endorsement.
I agree the beginning of the video is flavored negatively. I plan to change that and will pull out my spin doctor to achieve it. Even though this is not an official video, I want to avoid a disservice to the community.
For the record, I did some homework on the artwork and soundtrack. I spent most of my time making the video actually doing this research. All official SFR images are photos of boxes, images from links in these forums, or the box artist's online galleries. The rest are either fair use, creative commons, or I have contacted the artist for permission (some approvals pending). All soundtrack and image credits are in the video description.
I get the note about the photos of people. They both happen to be from the boardgamegeek.com Dragon Dice⢠page (https://boardgamegeek.com/images/boardgame/1860/dragon-dice/page/2?sort=recent&gallery=people&date=alltime). Not justification for use, but tied closely online to the game for at least 6 years.
Thanks again. I'll be in touch. |

There is a core group of people who tend to respond first to posts. Some of them just happen to be the core people.
I'll reply in more detail to your private message. _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

I did the map. He already asked me if he could use it and I said no problem.
I also created that playmat shown in the early part of the video. It was just for home use and used some borrowed artwork on it. _________________ Dragon Dice⢠collection 801 (1/8/2014)
