Maybe it's just the Drain-o talking, but I count 3-4 variations of Dwarves related to color.....

Am I the only one who finds these things interesting? Smile

I just happened to stumble across these posts while surfing the forum and re-reading older posts.
This one stayed unanswered.
In one of my first posts in this forum I mentioned different DD editions. In the meanwhile my collection has grown a little and I agree with deputyfive! There's more than just two different colortypes, I noticed that, too!
There's at least three in Coral elves which are that different that you might call them different colorvariations! I'm not talking about so and so many per cent more or less of a certain color but really big differences in appearance! Same with terrains, lava elves and others!

You see, deputyfive, you're not the only one finding this interesting!

And I believe it's no secret anymore that I collect them all if the difference is remarkable enough!

BTW! Has anybody ever found a die without ink at all???

That would be some weird army, consisting of iconless dice! (like the idea of an all blind archer army somebody mentioned somewhere in his post! Cool
Impossible to read in the game but who cares in this case??? Just for the fun of it!!

If anyone whants to get rid of those, just let me know! I wanna build my "I don't know who I am"-army! Laughing Laughing Laughing

I've seen a few dice with no ink on one side. The molding is there, just no ink. So if you have good lighting, you can tell what the icon should be. I think Cliff also said he had a die with no ink. Except for a couple of prototype dice I have, I've never seen a die with no ink at all.

I have one minor terrain (a Coast Woods, I believe) missing ink on the missile icon, but only on that one side. And yes, it does look "blank" when you first roll it, even when you know the imprint is there.

I've never even had one that had no ink on one face. I get plenty where an Amazon is missing headdress, or eyes, cavalry dots, beaver-spittle, etc., are blank.

I definitely spend the most time looking at the differences between my Dwarves.

Anyone know anything about the Swampstalkers that have a "lizard pattern" on the maneuver (snake) icon? It seems to only be there when there is a single maneuver icon, and I'm pretty sure it is just the paint bubbling, but I've noticed about half my swamps that have a single maneuver icon on one face have that look.

I've never found any variation within a print run of Frostwings, Scalders, Treefolk, or Firewalkers. Feral have basically no color variation. Undead every once in a while seem to have a very whitish-gray face, and sometimes have a lighter, yellower ink on one face.
Oh, and I have a Frostwing with a raised edge that didn't get polished/sanded down enough.
There, now you all know my life story.

You forgot the overgrown fingernails, unkempt hair, and jars of urine placed about the room. But yes, that's generally how it is. Wink

Third: No jars in the room! We've got windows!!! Laughing

I don't have to worry about the jars. I have a bathroom in my game room. (OK, the game room is annexed to the laundry room, but still we can just leave everything and go...well, do our business whenever we have to.

We play at a local coffee shop called Pikes Perk. Great coffee, pastries, and a clean bathroom for those inbetween rolls emergencies. (You don't buy coffee, you rent it).

It's also a great place to draw attention to DD. Today I noticed that just about everyone standing in line was watching Stan and I battle it out. So either they were curious about the game, or wondering why two middle-aged men were playing with dice.

Hmmm.... gotta think about that. Confused

Just *please* tell me that you didn't have a heated argument about the maneuver roll in the middle of a coffee shop. Smile
I'm thinking that might turn off anyone curious about the game.

Clarification: Battle it out = play the game.

Discussion was not heated (althought I wanted to bounce the French press off his head, but that was just because it would have been funny), and he agreed to take the word of Chuck or Steve or Dave or anyone that backed me up. He even admitted I was probably right, but it's always good to have a second opinion, and Chris hasn't been playing long enough to have one.

So no. No major argument. Just a calm discussion. I like being the center of attention most of the time (Fair warning for Origins, Steve!), but not when I'm going to look like an idiot. Besides, unless you have absolute proof, there's no winning an argument with the man. He makes mules seem reasonable by comparison. Laughing

Okay, enough defensive typing. I need my sleep.

Rest assured I was only asking in jest. But I did have a funny image in my head of gamers going at it in a coffee shop.

WArning taken, but given your caveat, that shoudln't be a problem. Smile (Then again, when has that ever stopped either of us?)

This is in reference to the different goblin colors.
I like to refer to the two types of goblins as the following:

Shade Goblins Cool
Sun Goblins Very Happy

The idea is simple,
the Shade Goblin is in the shade, thus muddy looking colors,
while the Sun Goblin resembles the sun breaking thru the trees,
casting both very Dark Black and Vivid Yellows.

I prefer the Sun Goblins (my favorite ones have tons of yellow),
although since I won the Sealed Box Championship 2006 with Shade Goblins, now I like them equally.(Actually I like tons of black too)
I have 2 complete sets of Shade Goblins(minus any monsters)
UPDATE:2007
The New Starters Have Shade/Mud Goblins (Including Mosters)
I have my first Shade Goblin Monster.

Here is a Shade/Mud Goblin:

Here is a Sun Goblin:

Here is a Sun Marauder:

Here is a Mud Marauder:

Here is the Midnight Goblin:
(SFR Starter)

Death Acolyte Trog™ Disciple (Former Goblin)

NEW!!

Silt Goblin (commons only)

Very Fine Grain found only in common goblins.

Beautyful example, Jim!

And after looking at the date of your post I was shocked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Geez, how long have I been gone??????????????

Well, feels like I've awakened from a Cinderella's sleep!
Oh well, certain life situations require certain actions, but I've recovered and I'm back (every once in a while, if not sitting in the middle of nowhere again, LOL!).

I'm working on scanning the Lava Elves for the bbCode Images,
and I ran into 2 types of Lava Elves from the original set.

Sun Lava Elves:

When viewed in sunlight,
You can see Gold in the Lava Elf Mix from the original Lava Elves.
There seems to be 2 distinct mixes,
one with Gold and one without Gold.
The first two examples are Lava Elves with Gold.
(or Sun Lava Elves)
The Example of the Necromancer does not have Gold.
The Gold is most visible when well light with a bright light.
Here I'm using a scanner.

Note:
This is just an example of plastic mixes and has no effect on game play.
The lava elf does not gain gold.

Duelist Saves (Sun Lava Elf)

Another Duelist Maneuvers (Sun Lava Elf)

Necromancer Magic (This is an example of no Gold)

Murky Coral Elves:

The new starters have a plastic mix which I like to call "Murky".

The starters have also been named Dark.
I have found that the names "Sun" and "Shade" also work to help define the diffent plastic mixes.

Murky Coral Giant
I got this one in GenCon Sealed Box

Also "Dark Coral Giant", "Shade Coral Giant"

Sun Coral Giant

I might also add that the original Coral Elves also had another mix,
of hard sharp contrast.
I don't have a name for that yet.....

However the Mecenary Bowmen seem to be only from the Sun Coral Elves variety.

The Coral Elf Drake shown here is an Excellent Example of Murky:
