Call me simple, but wouldnt the money spent to make new molds for a new race be better spent on a decent advertising campaign to drum up more interest...more sales...more money for SFR to then invest in new product? Dont get me wrong, being an avid collector,i'm always up for new product, but every time i demo the game at my FLGS, nobody has ever heard of the game, and the few that have are astonished to learn that the game is still alive. Advertising done right, although expensive, can yield many more times the investment than new product that only the loyal few know about. Just my 2 cents. We have advertised. In a couple of places. As near as I could tell it was a waste of money. Our best advertisement has been (in order): word of mouth, store demos, and GenCon.
The done right part, would take about 10-100 times the money we've spent on molds. One mold would be about the same as a quarter-page ad in Scrye for one month. And that's just one example.
It's clear we are in a market were we have to have new products or die. The second biggest question I've gotten at GenCon was "What's new?". Of course, the first biggest, is something along the lines of "Isn't Dragon Dice⢠dead?". _________________ You can never have too many dice.

Chucks right
The people must see it, and see what you could do.
Next year we will go (i hope ) to Spiel Essen, that would be an important step i think. |

Wouldnt it be cheaper to put out a new "Dice commanders manual" with updated race info, strategies tips and swoopy graphics? Isnt paper publishing cheaper than plastic processing? Not to mention better for the environment.I just think more people need to know more about the existing game and what the existing stuff is about vs a new race that, in reality, only we few dedicated followers are going to truly appreciate. _________________ "Another days useless energy spent." Why would people pay for a manual of some sort when we give it away? Sure, we could get into a collectible card game and it would cost us less to make. But then we lose what is it that's great about this game.
The important thing is that no one will spend money on a dead game. So if we don't show that we are alive and making new products to show that, we can just hang it up now. _________________ You can never have too many dice.

BTW - using that logic on a few dedicated followers would buy a new DCM anyway. I've thought hard about making a new DCM, but looking at the costs (cheap as they are), I'm not sure it would even break even. _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

As was mentioned in another thread, Racial Banners would not be a bad idea. People (read..kids) need an identifiable "faction" to get behind.Just part of the whole "advertising done right" idea that seems to be getting bashed.
On a side note, I am on your side and want to see the game become as popular as MTG so please dont take my comments as anything more or less than "helpful" criticism from a devoted and lifelong fan of the game.

As for books you could do Print On Demand and not have a print run to worry about sizing right, stocking, and selling all of....
www.lulu.com
The RPG company I work with uses them for all their printing, and has for years now... good quality. fast. just needs a lot of work to layout the file right, and the international shipping is a little expensive, but not unreasonable. |

Well, if you guys really want to help out, our biggest project that never seems to get off the ground is a new website. We really need to update it. It's been the same basic design for 6-7 years. And much of it is outdated. Daniel Burkley has given me some text for updating the racial descriptions on the website. I can do the actual updates, I just need some one with a bit more "artistic" sense to give me an idea of something new.
I'm going to move this entire thread to "SFR Operations". There are new threads for racial introductions to go up on the website at "Game Strategy". I'll start a new thread for website design. Feel free to help out. _________________ You can never have too many dice.
