For those who haven't checked out the new online rules, let me summarize for you..

Dragon Lair - Ever wanted to send out a dragon a turn to do your bidding? Sit Ubue, Sit! Good Drake. Sic'em!

Grove - An uncontrollable fountain of life, even the buried are not exempt to its power.

Vortex - Control this temporal distortion and anyone can get a second chance to do the right thing...

Castle - The ultimate in strategy, really wish you had a City? Dreading that you forgot your standing stones? Need some protection from the forces of death? We can do that.

Ok, so it was more of a teaser than a summary, but just go read the new rules!

This is awesome! I can't wait to get some of the new dice. I have the same dice maker so I know the quality will be there. How many dice will be in the set again? Is it a fixed set? Just curious on what to expect. My group has been dying for new Terrain dice... ^_^

What booth is SFR at this year? I 'll be there, but I am going to spending so much time pimping the new edition of Cookie Fu, I just might have to send my loyal apprentice to pick up a few sets. Either that or he can run the booth whilst I stroll over and say hello to Chuck and the team.

Best,
Brian Kowalski

Take a look at the first post in this thread. It will tell you what comes in the box.

SFR will be in booth #115. Bad news is that I can't make GenCon this year. But we have an all-star team to cover the booth and events. So stop on by, we may have a surprise or two for you......

Any hints on the progressions of the sides for the 4 special frontier terrains (which could make a Coastland have more magic, for example) OR on the progressions (1-7) for the Feylands or Wastelands?!?!

I don't know if anyone else noted (at least I didn't see anything posted), but the cover shows the dragon's lair showing a melee 5th face... If the faces are still in standard order, then that's a lot of melee-faces. As for the vortex, it shows a missile 5th face, so it's a bit hard to make anything out of that. Both show a melee 7th face and a magic 1st face though, so nothing out of the ordinary at that.

Ok, maybe it's time for another little hint.....

All of the terrain (new and old), have the same type of progression:

low number(s) - magic
medium number(s) - missile
high numbers - melee

All terrains have melee on faces 6 and 7. Why? Simple. A terrain cannot start higher than 6. It was deemed important for game balance that it be possible for all terrains to start on magic, missile, or melee. Not with equal chances of any of those 3 actions, but with at least 1 chance of any of the 3 terrain actions.

Last hint today: All the terrains, new and old, have a different action icon progression. So for example, Highlands have 3 magic faces, 2 missile faces, and 2 melee faces. Coastlands have 1 magic face, 4 missile faces, and 2 melee faces.

OK, and if you read this thread completely, you will be able to figure out all the terrain progressions. You just won't know which one goes with which terrain.....

That will be the final hint, maybe about the end of July....

thanks for the new set of hints! epic stuff!

now if only I could piece them together... I still seem to end up with 10 possible configurations for all dice in total, so I'm still left with too much options...
gah! frustrating! I have to go and get some sleep, but I also really want to figure this out!

...
...
...

AhA! I figured them out (probably...)! thanks! Thank you so much!

Smile trying the pigeon hole approach? I think there might be one extra hole, but honestly, its not a terrain we could make balanced anyway.

pigeon hole? I guess... I did have to make some assumptions about balancing though. I could post how I got to my awnser, but I feel kind of akward spilling the 'big secret' out here...

I'm just curious from a mathematical point of view, so send it to me privately.

OK, time for something more. I'm going to let you know about the Wastelands terrain:

Design concept: Wastelands is a desert-like terrain with rolling sand dunes. Hot (which accounts for the red), and open to the sky (which accounts for the blue). No earth in this terrain, because nothing can grow there, no soil, just sand. Because of the hilliness of the terrain, missile is difficult, hills are too short to give good advantage, but tall enough to make it difficult to missile from past one hilltop to beyond the current valley. Not much mana, so little magic as well. This is a rough terrain where your best bet is good old-fashioned hand-to-hand combat.

Colors: Red/Blue
Ink Color: White
Eighth face design: Same as original terrains (City, Standing Stones, Temple, Tower)
Icon Progression: 1 - Magic, 2 - Missile, 3 - Missile, 4 - Melee, 5 - Melee, 6 - Melee, 7 - Melee

This means, there will still not be a blue terrain with more than one Magic. Thats bad

for balance's sake, I can see why. Firewalker magicians would be all over the place for this one. Maybe this terrain could help emhasize their melee- related rule a little more? I like it al lot anyways Smile

Go back and re-read this entire thread. You still have reason to hope, you just missed it.

(look around the March timeframe)

Will there be a GenCon Special? Or was the link on the sales-page some remnant from a previous GenCon. I'm asking because (sadly) I won't be attending myself, but I have a friend who will be there, and he agreed to buy some dice for me (actually, quite a bit if all goes well Smile ). If the special is revealed at the latest moment, I don't know if I can still pass on instructions wheter or not to buy.

edit: I presume the new expansion will be available at GenCon? (And a case of Treefolk? I'm still in doubt about this one though...).

The new Battlefields expansion will be available at Gencon for the first time, but the pricing won't be any different.

There will be one surprise at Gencon (there always is). I will try to post it on thursday morning. Have your friend check it out for you. I expect to sell out, but if we don't I will put them on the website.
