Doesn't matter - ties go to the acting player.

Turn terrain up to face 7.

Attack: 2 melee icons, 4 ID, Cantrip.

Resolve cantrip to cast Buring hands on my Lurker (which rolled its ID) (yeah, not a very impressive melee roll as my Skirmisher and Patroller both rolled maneuvers Mad ).

10 melee results at you, which will kill your monster no matter what it rolls.

Reserve phase:
Retreat footman from frontier, all the dwarves from my home, and everyone from your home.

I end my turn.

Magic Negation is only if your army containing Frostwing mages is at the same terrain as the other army attempting magic (an opposing army). So with this setup you cannot roll for Magic Negation.

Both the maneuver and action phase of a march are optional. So you can roll your minor terrain, and then not maneuver and not take an action. It still counts as a march.

Thanks for the correction. I was right about them not being applicable here, just for the wrong reason so to speak.

That said (and feel free to insert "because we said so" here), why isn't FW ability to negate more on par with the Dispel Magic SAI. Specifically, why shouldn't it be the unit, the unit's army or the occupied terrain?

I think this could, perhaps, be made clearer in the following way:

Magic Negation: When an opposing army at the same terrainconducts a Magic Action, Frostwing Mages (Frost Ogre, Magi, Magus & Apprentice) may simultaneously make a magic negation roll. Each non-ID magic result subtracts one point from the magic generated by the other army before any other modifiers are applied to the acting army’s magic roll. If multiple players with Frostwing Mage units roll to negate magic, only the greater of the rolls is subtracted from the acting army’s non-SAI generated magic results. Other opposing rolls are ignored.

Recognizing that saying "at the same terrain" is redundant when one looks in the glossary, I would suggest this would clear up misinterpretation closer to the surface of the game. Perhaps, I am more simple, but I think of all of my opponents armies as "opposing" especially considering that in Missile and Magic attacks they can attack from one terrain to another.

I agree that "opposing" is a confusing term. However, adding a new term "Mage" is equally confusing.

As to why it's not more on par with Dispel Magic: it's in the history of Frostwings. It's part of what they do. It also ties into the reason they can't double IDs anywhere except at a Standing Stones terrain.
