One of my first trades with Joe was a mix of Dragon Dice™ and Chaos Progenitus. I'd acquired a Brain die that had a crack in it. So knowing that he had just had his skull cracked open to remove the first tumor on his brain, I sent it to him. He thought it was hilarious, but wanted me to think it pissed him off. We had a phone call shortly after that. He had me going for about 5 minutes before he busted up laughing.

That's Joe's sense of humor for you.

I only had a brief interaction with Joe during the release of THE best Dragon Dice™ novel ever written! - "A Chill Wind". I ordered several copies to give to away to some of our reps (at the time) who had never read it. Joe was very thrilled but very humbled by the response. "A Chill Wind" is always on my kindle. It is my go-to 'fun read' book when I have the time. I will always remember Joe for his writing, whether it is for his novel or for his musings on S&JW!

He did other writing as well. He had started a horror serial, but never finished it and I couldn't get him to tell me how it would end. Now we will never know.

I might have the first draft of the first chapter of his sequel to Chill Wind somewhere. I don't know how far he ever got with it, but I'll see what I can find out. Obviously, it will never be finished, but if I can get any of his work up I will.

It saddens me that I will never have the opportunity to meet Joe, I haven't yet read Chill Wind but I have steadily lurked through every post this far down south and I could see how well loved and warmly received his antics were and it saddens me that he will have to be remembered, rather than known.

Even as an outsider, I can see that the world is a little bit colder now.

I met Joe for the first time at Origins in 2005.

There were only about 5 or 6 of us as I recall in a tournament. He seemed to really love his Frostwings and certainly helped me with understanding the game. His enthusiasm for the game and life was infectious.

I'm pretty sure he mooned us in that great big hall! RIP Joe.
