Okay, Cliff. At first I bought your story about having to design the Satyr icons under extreme pressure at the 11th hour. Hence the maneuver icon that, for all intents and purposes, looks like a - how shall I put this? A butt. Heck, I was even feeling sorry for you; for all the abuse you've apparently been subjected to for many years.

But as I was putting my dice away and starting looking through the boxes of assorted Dragon Dice™ stuff I have deep in the bowels (slight jab intended there, btw) of my garage, I came across this: http://home.comcast.net/~papayd/dd/Satyr.pdf.

What is it? Could it be? Yes, it is! It's the original dice artwork for the Satyr, as designed by Paul Jaquays back in 1996. Funny, I don't see any half-a$$ed (yes, another jab) icons in that design, do you?

The cat's out of the bag now! 'Fess up, Cliff!

All in good fun,
Dave Papay

P.S. I have no idea how or from whom I got that artwork. It's one of the few Dragon Dice™ paper items that survived my flood a few years ago. Hmmm. Maybe the reason you guys had to design the icons is because I somehow ended up with the die layout all those years ago.

Interesting. Kinda goes along with something that Will told me many years ago. That the Treefolk were not very well thought out. Some of those icons are really hard to figure out. Scare and Magic are easy. I think it has 2 missile. And is that a foot? No idea what the heart-shaped thing is supposed to be. I'll have drop Jennell Jaquays a line and see if she knows what it was.

Make fun of my scars. Go ahead it's fun, he doesn't have any real feelings. Go ahead and poke him. He doesn't even hurt. Go ahead and cut him. He doesn't even bleed. Stupid silly cliff. He's not even a real boy.

So I don't know why they decided to redesign those monsters. I've seen the origin box art and thought it was awesome. I've seen the design for the hanging tree and like it better than the dark tree. However once Will decided to change it a new design an icon was needed and I know that Paul (who no longer signs her artwork that way) had more time and skill than I.

As for you having the design file. You know I'm interested in anything you have specially related to unearthly. I have the die and artwork but only guesses at those rules.

But I'm wondering now if I should retro the Satyr to have a new Sai.

Butt : (special , melee attack, missile attack) during a melee attack, target an opposing die. It must generate a save or be sat upon until the beginning of your next turn. During a ranged attack, a foul stench rolls across the battle field, opposing armies can take no march until the beginning of your next turn.

I would guess it is a maneuver.

The heart would've been an Sai, but...

A love spell? A broken heart? What fits the mythos?

My 2 cents worth. first page looks like: ID icon, missile, magic, SAI SLEEP, and a pointy branch to be used as melee?

Hmmm, the heart SAI......in the mythos of Satyrs, they were known to, how should I put this delicately, "demonstrate their physical love making skills on mortals" to the point that they would die from exhaustion, E.G. heart would give out.

So Heart attack, or Heart failure? "choose one unit who must roll a save (to resist the Satyrs charms) or die from heart failure".
