I am wondering about this rare Lava Elf unit Assassin. On one of the sides it has 5 missile icons. I could be wrong on this, but in the old rules we simply count the 5 missile damages when this side comes up in the dice roll. But if I am reading the new rules correctly, when this side comes up, I should have 5 X 3 a total of 15 missile damages. This alone could be enough to destroy the whole army.

it counts as 5 Very Happy

You are not reading the rules correctly. On all six-sided dice, missile, magic, save, and melee icons are one point. On 10-sided dice, icons are 4 points. The only the ID is based on the number of health of the unit. So IDs on commons are 1 point, uncommons are 2 points, rares are 3 points, and monsters are 4 points.

Just curious, how did you come to the conclusion that each icon was worth 3 points?

I did read the part about ID icon being worth the same as the number of health points in one of the examples, so I just somehow extrapolated that all the dice icons are multiply by their health points too.

The old rules had an exception on the one Feral that was printed with one BIG icon instead of 4 smaller ones. Is this still an exception or has he been 'normalized' and only counts a one result now?

It has been noted as an exception (although not explicitly called a misprint) on p. 39 of the rulebook.
