Does anyone happen to know if Mark Wiker ever completed the work he was doing on his Dragon Dice Duels system? We played it at ShoreCon a couple of years ago, and it makes for a really fun party-type Dragon Dice game. It seemed like the rules at the time were not quite finished, and it doesn't look like there's been any changes on his web site. I know Mark had some work and health issues, but is he anywhere around the DD world these days? _________________ Steve "DDice" Braun

I can't say what has happened with Mark, but I know we did some design work at Gencon 03 (I think that was the last time I saw him)
I played an undead character which forced us to review a lot of the basic concepts as well as some new ones, since he hadn't thought about that race yet.
The approach he was taking then was a 'dot to dot' approach. ie Term_X in DragonDice means Term_Y in Duels. There were about a dozen of those convertion_rules to memorize and almost any SAI/ game effect would translate over.
and as always (for me) its a matter of priorities. |

I thought that the Duels concept was pretty cool, but it was not fleshed out enough to understand without working with someone who already knew how to play. I also thought the the progession of dice was too rectrictive, based on the information I had.
If duels does get revived I'd like to take another look at it. |

Unsure if it was ever completed either - i thought it was an EXCELLENT idea tho! So based on his character sheets I knocked up character sheets for ALL the current Unoficcial DDice races - Netherworlders, mine, etc. Dont think I ever posted them on my site tho as the game itself kinda went into hibernation. _________________ Tony Newton,

As Cliff pointed out we worked on refining the Duels Rules at GENCON 2003. I don't think Mark ever got anything written up on our ideas but I can go back and see what notes I had and what annotations I had on my character sheet. I think I've got one of (if not the) highest officially rated Duels characters. He's either a 14th or 15th (I'll have to go look at the sheet) Frostwing pure Magi. _________________ John Koslow |
