Okay rules guys, someone explain this to me. Here I come from hooking four new players to the game, one of whom absolutely loved the Amazons (Chuck, you can probably expect an order soon.) Going the rules took me the better part of an hour and two bottles of water. On Amazons, "You can cast magic of whatever color terrain you're army is at, but Amazons are denied Death magic."

Most who know me (see the CWC archives, or just ask Steve), know that I play using the DCM because I just couldn't abide all the new rules (that old dog, new trick thing). On a whim this morning, I go to the SFR website and start perusing the racial rules (because Wes liked the Stalkers and one thing I NEVER liked was the original mutate), and discover that Amazons can now use Death magic. What gives? How did that happen? If my fuzzy memory serves me right, there are no terrains with the black element. Is there a new one that's soon to be released? If so, I applaud this change to the game. I've always said what DD lacked was just that.

In the meantime, while we wait for that terrain, I'm going to need an explantion for the group. If the answer lies in the new rules, I apologize for the rant. I've started printing them out, but I know I've got some 'splainin' to do today.

As for Death (Black) magic, Amazons can get black magic if a Deadlands is cast on a terrain. Remember, Deadlands is on the Terrain. so if a bunch of Swampies cast Deadlands on a terrain at 1, everybody at the terrain can use it. Also, of course, you can combine Amazons with another race that has black magic, or if that offends you Wink, a Bronze Medallion or a Black magic item can also cast Deadland (don't forget Amazons can carry every color of magic item).

Just to clarify, Amazons use Death Magic when Deadlands is cast on a terrain, or when they are carrying a black magic artifact? I can't simply combine Amazons with say, the Undead, in my army, and then start using my Amazon magic points for black magic? Right? Confused

Now that I've written it, it makes sense.

Amazons cast magic based on the colors of the magic in the terrain. So there are a few spells that cause a change in the normal colors of the terrain. Part Water removes Green from a terrain. Call Water, Create Mountain, and Deadlands, all add new colors to the terrain. All four spells change the spells that Amazons can cast at the terrain. So while Undead can cast Deadlands, before the Deadlands is cast, Amazons cannot generate any black magic. If an Amazon army is carrying two black Sight Stones, and gets 4 points of black magic, then a Deadlands can be cast. If the two Sight Stones get only 3 points of magic, then it does not matter how much magic the Amazons get, a Deadlands spell cannot be cast.

So Steve agrees that I'm an idiot. The answer was in front of me all the time. I'd forgotten that you can carry black magic items (thus proving how little they get used with my group), and about Deadlands.

Thanks for not reminding me of my own stupidity, guys!

I'm now reading the new rules (and trying to figure out how to recoup the cost of the ink I used for all 87 pages)..
