A single ashstorm should count against an individual roll.
So a single ashstorm/mirage combo against a common army,
should send them all to reserves.

Spells like hide, camoflauge, earthen armour would be the only way to avoid this combo.
(Or not being a common unit)

this would be good one...if you had enough magic...
although I'm not sure the ruling.
I'm leaning toward...it's a save avoidance
roll.
So then only 1 ashstorm would have an effect.

Ashstorm does not affect units making an individual roll. The target of Mirage is a bit tricky. It seems that it is just the terrain. Well actually it is the terrain. But note that it only effects common units. The use of the word "Each" also reinforces the idea that it's only about individual units. So every common unit at the target terrain has to make an individual save roll or flee to reserves.

Whenever the spell description talks about units, it is an individual roll (if it's allowed a roll).

Units that have Hide or Camouflage don't need to roll at all, they can't be targeted.

Earthen will certainly work against a Mirage. That situation is exactly the sort of thing it is designed to protect against.

you have a mish-mash of units, but its still possible.

its the ID's that are killing us. I never saw 6 monters roll so many.
