So here I am at 12:07 in the morning on my computer, procrastinating on sleep because I have to get up in a few hours to go to work.. I know, I'll go on the Dragon Dice forums!
Basically I wanted to make this thread so that I might be better able to make contact with all the wonderful new friends I've made this year at GenCon! Before I went to GenCon, Dragon Dice was just a cool hobby that I played every once in a while with a few friends/family who were interested, a real casual affair that was easy to get into. I basically bought some starters when I first found the game and taught myself from the rulebook, and taught everyone else I play with regularly in my hometown how to play as well, so it's basically been one big game of "the blind leading the blind"
But now that GenCon's come and gone, Dragon Dice feels so much.. bigger I learned so very much about the game, was able to experience so many different playstyles by talking to/watching you all play.. and the funny thing is, I was only there for four days, and only spend about 2 hours each one of those days actually playing or watching. And yet, I feel like I was with my long lost best friends, playing a game I've been familiar with since I was a boy, not sitting at a table with a bunch of strangers playing a game I've only somewhat known for a year.
By the way, in case anyone was wondering by now, I'm the kid with the curly hair and the blue baseball cap
I'm sorry it's taken so long to even post anything since GenCon; Kaitlin and I were actually stranded in Chicago for nearly 24 hours after the convention thanks to United Airlines.. and didn't get back 'til 4 AM yesterday morning.. and I've been working ever since (I even had to work an 11 hour shift today =_=) I haven't even unpacked I can't WAIT to crack into the case of Eldarim/Battlefields I got!
But alas, I must away ere break of day, as I have to work again in the morning I just thought I'd get online while I had the chance to let everybody know what a profound experience I had the last week Thank you all so much, and please post something in this thread so that we can reminisce about GenCon like little schoolgirls Even you, John K., you darn lurker
Peace out for now,
~Jace _________________ Alea iacta est. |

wow, and I thought my 9 hour drive was bad. but I haven't slept much since then either I've been working an 8 hour day and then after coming home working about 8 hours over night. so I know how you feel.
this is what we get for trying to take 4 days off from our lives.
As for little school girls, I'm still psyched about tieing for first in battlefest. thats a hard one to win and I did it with an all missile army! no magic, no trolls, no medallions. you don't see that very often anymore. _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

Yeah after Gencon sucked for me too, I had to drive a whole 2 hours, well maybe and hour and a half back home where I crashed and didnt wake up the next morning at about noon. Then monday I sat around in my underwear watching old smallville epsiodes all day eating way too many bowls of cereal. Man it was tuff, you guys think you had it hard..... _________________ 2nd Place World Championship Gecon 2011 (no loses) |

Just kidding More power to ya! You set a sterling example of the level of relaxation we should all strive for after a grueling week at the 'Con
I totally forgot to ask how your army fared, Cliff! I remember you tied for first, I was just very curious as to how your "Black Christmas" army did as they dropped burning pitch-coated arrows on the heads of your foes _________________ Alea iacta est. |

Jace, welcome to the larger DD community. I've been involved with the game since 1996 and have always found the DD community to be very open and welcoming. Also there are no elite players, IMHO, just some who are luckier than others in their dice rolls. Hope to see you at future events. _________________ Michael DeZearn

It did good. I'm glad we only had four rounds. I don't think I could've survived another one.
The all missile army is an interesting one. you have to have the terrains come up in the midrange and hope your oppoent doesn't have access to magic.
For example, against Jim he got the first turn and killed all my dwarves (30 health) in his first melee action. The all missile doesn't save very well.
If you opponent has access to magic then he can bring his units back, half your missile, turn your terrain up or down. etc.
You also have to not make the mistake of trying to capture an 8th. I tied lost my first round (instead of a straight tie) because I forgot this. You can turn a terrain up to force them to come out of reserves, but you can't generate enough maneuvers to hold it if you capture it. _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

Not sure if this is the right place for it, but I wanted to make sure I took a minute and thanked Jace (I believe) for pimping the game for me Saturday night at Gencon. It was the only game I actually got to play in, as I run events and such most of the Con. Anyway, he was awesome dealing with a very worn out version of me, telling old Dragon Dice stories and in general being a loud and rated-R gamer.
Thanks man, you re-invigorated my interest in this game...that's for sure! _________________ Vae Victis!

Thanks, Mike, It's great to be part of the larger DD community! Which is why I was so glad I was able to go to GenCon.. I mean it's one thing to be a member of the forum, but to meet so many great players and great people in person, it was awesome! You certainly will see me at future events; I haven't had that much fun with dice in.. ever

Wow, I never really thought of that.. but it's so true, missile units can't really do anything reliably except missile.. I guess they truly are support units at heart! Still, it's great to see that you were able to take the army so far; it's terrible when I see that so many people forsake missile units in their armies because they think they're "obsolete". That'll show 'em! I hope you manage to perfect your missile army for next year (insert 300 spartans reference)

Heck yeah, brother, I hadn't had that much fun kicking dice butt in a long time! It was awesome that you could come and stay for so long, between running your own events, that was an amazing four hours (except it seems like it was only 25 minutes)
I'm glad to have re-invigorated your interest in the game, because that's what it's all about - not winning or losing, but just having a blast with a couple of people, especially when you're doing some multiplayer mayhem!
Which is one of the reasons I like Dragon Dice so much.. I mean, for some reason, killing dice is so much more fun than killing cards or virtual Pokemon or whatever. Remember Poison or those **** Amazon arrows? I never had so much fun watching my dudes drop like flies
Anyways, it's great that you followed me to the forum, and I hope you stick around and keep on rolling. I'd better see you at the table next year! _________________ Alea iacta est. |

Gencon 2010 Aftermath:
I've gathered all the pieces from the aftermath...
at least the large pieces anyways..
and have assembled them.
Turns out it is a bright light at the end of a tunnel...
with the words GenCon 2011. |
