DragonDice games can have a lot of chance. What are strategies to limit that and improve your chances to win?

What I do is :

1) Know your dice and construct with a plan in mind.
2) really understand probability and what you can expect to get or not get

you also have to watch the 'meta-game' by that I mean, how do you expect your opponent to respond on his next turn. the turn after that?

There are lots of situations where i have to make a decision now based on what is likely to happen several turns from then.

i.e. its very typical for people to 'giveup' a terrain by retreating all units from it. but sometimes thats the same as givingup the game. the game might not end for 5 more turns, but it will. in that case you fight for that terrain even if its magic against melee units.

I prefer 3pt lavaelf mages myself.

Necromantic Wave is awesome.

Not going to deny that at all. I was stand alone thinking the unit with no supports. But yes cantrip necromantic wave and counter attack with a group of lava elf mages is quit fierce. Especially if your in a mountain to get the defense bonus.

Hah! I'll take my Feral mages against any other (full) mages. And win.

Just don't forget that it's a strategy game. It is not a game of chance. Yes, sometimes the dice don't give you the results you would like.

I was just at a gaming convention last weekend do demos of Dragon Dice. You could tell really fast which people that sat down had played a lot of strategy games and which had not. For example, one guy got an eighth face with a rare heavy and a monster. When it was pointed out that he could do melee, missile or magic, he asked which icons on the dice did what. He quickly realized that while melee was the best for that army he couldn't use it because there was no opposing army. So he looked at missile and magic, both of which he could do. He decided on missile because the monster had some missile-related icons, and neither die had magic icons. Those are the kind of decisions that you must face in the Dragon Dice game. And those are the sort of things that Cliff is referring to.
