Let's shake things up a bit and see who can create the worst army ever!
(hey, there's some strategy to that)

Rules:
  • each person can submit one army
  • armies are to be 36 health, standard army construction rules. Don't forget to include terrains and dragons.
  • All items must be carryable by the army when it is split into the home, campaign, and horde armies.
  • submissions are accepted from now until May 31, 2011
  • from June 1, 2011 thru June 14, 2011, forum users may then vote for the three worst armies submitted. The winning (losing?) army will be calculated from the votes.

I'll start things off with my worst army:

Kings' Die
Skeletal Steed
Elephant-folk
Gorgon
Quickling
Gold Mantlet
Black Flying Carpet
Green Blade Golem
Blue Trebuchet

2 Swampland City
White Drake

Sigh, flying carpet has a magic icon I can't use it and I want to use artifacts instead of magic items to maximize my health loss potential.

so... trebuchets it is.

Swamp Dragons Lair (no color match, no terrain flight, mostly melee)
Wasteland StandingStone (minimize magic and missile)
7 * Sunburst (can't save for anything)
6 * Blue Trebuchet (no saves and my terrains have no missiles)
2* Ivory Wyrms (so anyone can summon them against me)

Not only can't it win (like an all save army couldn't either), but it has no saves and only 7 health of damage will wipe it out.

Do we have to actually possess the dice we want to use? If not:

Horde army: 3 Unseelie Faeries

Campaign Army: 3 Unseelie Faeries
Proposed Terrain: Flatland Tower

Home Army: 3 Unseelie Faeries
Terrain: Flatland City

Dragons: 2 Gold Drake

Edit: I've never used one but I'm assuming swapping one of the Unseelies (take your pick) for a King's Die would do nothing but detract from the army's ability. The above setup, though, is without any promo dice.

Can't use all Unseelis-they're mages, so only half you army can be UFs under standard army construction rules.

Now an all-Ormyrr army- or perhaps 4 Ormyrrs, 1 Uttercrap, and 4 random artifacts...on a Flatland Tower home and Flat Temple frontier, blue and gold drakes. For artifacts, since they have to be carried at the beginning of the game to be legal, let's use a green Flying Carpet, a Black Dragonstaff, a Green Mantlet, and a Red Dragonstaff. The staffs mean I can only summon someone else's dragons, probably on myself. I'd use a Kings Die, but everyone else is jumping on that idea.

Just remember, even the DCM had nothing good to say about Ormyrrs.

No, you can create any legal army your imagination can imagine.

You don't need to split your dice into home, campaign, and horde - just a listing of the dice (like my post).

And why does everybody dump all over the Unseelie Faerie? Based on my personal experience using them, UF's are not the worst monster in the game.

This army will win the Initiative, maybe - but not anything else...

1 x black Sprinter
1 x red Sprinter
1 x green Sprinter
1 x gold Sprinter
1 x blue Sprinter
2 x black Seven League Boots
2 x red Seven League Boots
1 x green Seven League Boots
2 x gold Seven League Boots
2 x blue Seven League Boots
1 x Wraith
1 x Scout
1 x Apprentice
1 x Falcon-folk

1 x Gold Drake
1 x Green Wyrm

2 x Coastland Tower

Why I consider this the worst army to play:
* Only nine 1-health units.
* Easy to suffer casualties with even minimal damage.
* Very difficult to generate any significant magic between diverse races.
* Incapable of summoning Dragons.
* Capable of only feeble-fire and poor melee.
* Racial abilities cannot be used to any significant advantage.
* Terrains offer no advantages.

2x highland tower
12x green warder,
12x green steel buckler
2x black/red hybrid wyrm

It'll do nothing but wait and die.

are we allowed to 'smack talk' each others armies to point out the uhm.... detriments of our own?

I like how everyone is jumping on magic items, but why all the monsters? a common carrying an artifact is much easier to kill than a monster carrying one.

and i agree, much worse monsters to have than a fairy. but even an army of all utter craps doesn't play as badly as you might think.

I'm surprised to see that so many hold maneuvers in such a low esteem. Maneuvers both have a passive and an active power (counter-maneuver and maneuver, respectively), and it is the key to one of the two ways to achieve victory. Not only that, but it allows you to win horde rolls, allowing you to set the terms of the game.

edit: as for the crappy monsters, I recall an on-line game of crappy armies some time ago being dominated by an army consisting entirely out gorgons. I'll see if I can find it.
edit 2: Got it!

I can't speak for others, but monsters in a crappy army are basically one-and-done. There's almost no way to get them back. Commons can be healed almost by accident through IDs, even in a poorly built army.

Although that reminds me of a Battlefest army I thought about building (and may still do someday): one of each common for the non-Eldarim races. It wouldn't do anything well, but then again it wouldn't be totally useless regardless of terrain facing.

I don't see why not. Nothing wrong with a good debate before everyone casts their votes.

BTW, you are allowed to change the composition of your army before the June 1st deadline (in case you feel the need to tweak it).

That's been done before. I recall having to play with an army of all Gorgons, which I seem to recall was your brainchild.

9 Centaurs

Home: Swampland City
Frontier: Swampland Tower

2 green drakes

No saves, some melee, some missile, some maneuver. Crappy SAI (Kick). When they die, they have no way to come back.
