Chuck doesn't have to re-think his value. It still represents what he is willing to trade away in dice/money to get one. Its not the value of one. Big difference.

Sorry. Didn't mean to offend... missed the smiley face. Its just that I do see alot of references back to Chuck's points, and rightfully so. His page is an extrememly useful guide for others to conduct Dragon Dice trades. But, as far as true value for several dice, it really only shows what Chuck is willing to do in a trade at that point in time. I do think that gets forgotten sometimes. I was assuming this was one of those times. My bad.

Well, I can finally own up to it... the Unseelie is mine. I didn't want to say anything until it was actually in my possesion, verified to be a TSR Unseelie. It could have gotten lost, dropped, was an SFR that looked yellow in the picture, never sent, lost in the mail... who knows. I'm superstitious. That's probably why I like hockey too. Anyways, for those that were curious, here's your answer. I received it today, and a 15-year quest ends.... yeah! Very Happy

And it is a terrific specimen. The colors are nice and sharp, the die is shiny, and with no stray ink marks on the surface. And fortunately the guy didn't color in the faces with different colored inks/paints, like he did with one coral elf die....

The way he listed the auction, I didnt think he knew what he had. But when the package arrived, all the dice except the UF were in a big ziplock. The UF was bubble-wrapped and taped, and then added to the same ziplock. I found that interesting, and I did appreciate that.

Was it worth it? To me, it was. And to someone else it was too, cause the bid didn't jump that high on my bid alone. I imagine he or she was just as surprised as I was when they found out they were still outbid after such a high bid. I was hoping to get it for way less... the auction was "only" at $541 when I put my bid in with less than 10 seconds left. But, I obviously was prepared to go higher. It didn't mean I wasnt a bit shocked when I saw the final price. In truth though, I was expecting around $800-$900, since the last one when for over $800 several years ago. But I figured it could go for more, and wanted to bid accordingly. So it wasn't a total suprise to me that it went for what it did. They just arent that plentiful.

For the record, the final payment was $1,346.20 US. And believe me, every last cent was for the UF. The only other dice of note in the auction were a Bear-folk, a Crocosaur, and two Fireshadows. Sheesh.

Congratulations on your winning the UnSeelie. To my way of thinking you got a bargain. Back when the Scalders came out orginally, I bought 39 cases of Scalders and only got 2 Unseelies.

Place it on display proudly.

Congrats. After that many years searching... you wanted it a lot more than I did. (about 673% more)

So you deserve to get it.

39 cases? Wow. Even at retail, that is alot of money. And of course, a sealed case of Scalders would be no where near retail these days... if you could even find them. At 1 in 60 odds on the Unseelie, you would theoretically need 5 cases to get one unseelie. But as you just proved, that is not even a guarantee you'd get one. From my personal experience, I can say I have no luck. One case of TSR and one case of SFR have yielded me no Unseelies.

Yes, I did. I just bought a new "$50" storage solution for my dice collection... basically a china hutch from the flea market. Since I collect more than play, displaying the dice was more important to me than accessibility for army construction. I have a few dice I am waiting for from Chuck to put in it before I take a picture or two and post. It was really nice putting that UF in its rightful spot amonst the rest of the collection!

It's simply a matter of how many were made. There are roughly 100 times as many TSR Swamp Stalker kickers made as SFR made Amazon/Swamp Stalker Starters. So if x TSR kickers were made, there are x/60 TSR Ormyrrs. With (x/100)/5 or x/500 rares made in SFR starters, you can see that there is roughly 8 times as many TSR Ormyrrs as SFR rare Swamp Stalkers.

The latter was a post from Chuck quite awhile ago (the one that had the list of rare dice, in order from what he speculated was rarest to most common). In that explanation, he indicates (via talking about the Ormyrr) that the ultra-rare monsters are 1 in 60. Is that post not correct? I would assume the monster molds for each race create the same number of dice per casting, so it wouldnt be Ormyrr 1/60 and Unseelie being 1/40.

I am sorry, but is was that 39 kickers, or cases (which would be 468 kickers!). I am sure you know the difference, but that is a staggering amount, and I just wanted to be sure...

Actually, I believe that quote was originally from W**l (SFR's first president, whose name won't be spoken), and I don't think he was a reliable source of information... Evil or Very Mad

The amount was CASES and yes it was a staggering amount of dice and I was VERY disappointed not to get more Unseelies. I did get a fair number of Infernos though and I have been known to place more than one in my magic army.

Ok, ok... here are the pics of my new "dice storage unit"...

My collection is almost, but not quite complete. I have two rules: 1) I collect 12 health of each die of each race and 2) I must have at least one of any variation/inking that is available by purchase or pack (meaning, I am not trying to collect all of the special one-of-a-kind inkings, test run inkings, or tournament-prize inkings).

I am still looking for several of the new Batttlefield terrains, several Eladrim, a TSR Dragonlord V4, an SFR Blue Dragonmaster V4, and a Red Dragonhunter Promo with white ink.... then my collection will be complete. Most importantly, I have my new TSR Unseelie... shown in the last pic!

BTW, the gray cases to the left of the china hutch hold my extras. You can't build a collection this big without accumulating many extras... like 25 extra Ettercaps, etc...
