Another thing that I have seen folk do is make a crucial action or maneuver w/o casting first to augment this move. Many a time I will see people get hasty and attempt a maneuver w/o first casting for windwalks or transmutes. Or making a strike on your opponent w/o first giving buffs or debuffs to that acting or opposing army. Cast first, act second.

This isn't always true; be careful with stating hard rules. What if you're facing Frostwings? You might want to missile across to support your mages.

Edit: In fact, Wednesday I caught a player making that mistake. He was going to cast magic opposed by a vastly-larger group of FW. I explained that he should soften them up first so they don't negate as easily.

Its not a hard rule, its just something to not forget when the time comes. So many times I have seen that forgotten.

EDIT: In fact, Mr. Rayborn will add it if its worthy, just something I thought about that players may forget. Like leaving the "Lone ranger". What if you intend to hide/camo/fade him? Theres always options and reasons for doing things. Or not using a temple to bury just for the fact of doubling black magic?

I have seen new players attempt to maneuver without augment...
but I also have seen another similar instance.

I've seen many players simply cast reserve magic (probably out of habit) while they have an 8th.
grant it,
there is no right or wrong way,
as you can cast path from the reserves...
so I guess this can be summed up simply by saying...

Common Mistake 11: You only get two marches.

Chuck has mentioned too,
that splitting your forces into 3 armies,
you only get two marches,
so one army won't get a march.

Likewise,
if you cast from the reserves,
even if you path another unit to a terrain,
you have used up one march.
So if you have an 8th,
you might want to cast you magic and see if you get anything that might create a new army.

Either way,
there are endless plus and minuses, (augment, soften...)
but you only get two marches,
so use them effectively.

additional army stuff:
there is haunt, and nightmoves...
although not marches.
