I didn't get to review the rules, but I did update the demo mat. If you have a chance, try it out and let me know what you think. its intended to print on 11 by 17 paper.

Forgot to change Move to Dodge.
Quotes on ray and sweep should be italics.
Stinger reads wrong. Should be: "Stinger is wounded, victim suffers stun each turn until victim chooses to suffer a wound." _________________ You can never have too many dice.

Can you make a more graphic version...
(comical) or (dark)
I think it would add excitement and pictures seem to be easier to assiciate with rather than "wordy" assignmnets.
example:
Comical for stunned: twirls over a crossed eyed face
Dark:
Wounded: blood drips |

This is still a draft and not going into any kind of box.
.i plan to pretty it up with some artwork when it's closer to being done.
The one thing i don't know if it needs...
Most icons apply to one area. Attack or defense or minus. Would putting those icons in that area help or just lead to premature sorting? _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

Intuitive sorting is what most people do when they don't know the rules...
sort by color, icons etc
so just handling the dice and putting them in areas which seem correct is actually fun, even though it may not be how the game is played.
It gives them something to do until they learn more about the game. |

So there are two ways to handle that.
Currently the list of icons are done alphabetically, which is only useful if you know or can guess what the icon is.
So I could reorder the icons at the bottom into 'minus, defense, attack'
or I could leave that list alone and just put the icon image (no text) with those three boxes.
it would make it a little more busy. _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

I didn't have 11 x 17 paper, so I printed out a couple in 8 1/2 x 11. Tried a quick game, and a 13-die fiend really has no problem on the smaller mat. Unless you play a lot of "grabbing" dice, most sections are big enough (although you may have to go two-deep on attacks or defenses if you got a good roll). Wounded might be a little small against some fiends (especially rot), but if you fill up the current space your game is probably pretty close to over. _________________ Steve "DDice" Braun

Tweaks are what I'm looking for. I just found a games store that is 5 minutes from my house. They have only been open 6 months are cater to the magic youth, but I'm gonna see if any of them wanna play a dice game. so I'll get to test these out on new people too. _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

I think that sorting the icons on the bottom only, should be enough.
Just grouping them together according to their function, could be a help to new players. |

When I first played the game...
you rolled the dice...
then sorted in front.
That seemed to be the intuitive way for battle. |

Cliff has all the icons located at the bottom of the mat, which is a good location; they aren't in the way of play, but they're handy for reference purposes.
I was just thinking that having them sorted according to function, would make it easier for a new player to locate the icon that they're searching for. |

I agree with Spesh. If the icons were sorted by function (or some other criteria) it might help me to (a) learn the game (for myself)
(b) teach/demo the game.
Just looking at it from a novice rep 'point of view' .
Thanks _________________ Rep (director) |

Couldn't leave well enough alone, even though I hardly have any experience with the game. It was only halfway through that I discovered that there already was a demo mat (which turned out not to differ all that much from my set-up), so I borrowed some parts.
Even though my picture is a very rough set-up, I hope that it does demonstrate that I wanted to display structure. The fields have a strong relation to each other in a spacial sense. Active goes left, inactive goes right. The arrows make the board follow the broad lines of the thought-process that underlies a turn.

Very Nice... I like the tentacle.
Personally... I think the whole look should be that of a dungeon.
Just like the logo depicts... dungeon-like. |

Yes I'm certain of it...
to me anyways...
based on all these boxes used,
it would seem that a floor plan of a dungeon fits the bill.
So each box would be a room in the dungeon.
Passage ways would link rooms, similar to the arrow.
The entire look should be dark, large dungeon bricks,
and use the tentacles and claw body parts to add a spooky-creepy feeling. |

BTW - the reason that I put those across the top the way i did is so that two mats will line up against eachother. thus the grabbed and grabbing are near themselves.
Also, There are 3 minus and 4 defense and 11 attack and two multipurpose icons. I am not loving anyway to lay these out due to the large count differences... _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

I'm still not in love with this, but wanted to post it just to see what it would look like.

I know it needs some eye candy, but the artist I wanted to use is swamped, so it'll take some time for him to get to it. _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |
