DEXCON 18 will be at the Morristown Hyatt in Morristown, New Jersey, starting Wednesday evening, July 1st, through Sunday, July 5th, 2015.

See the Double Exposure website for additional information about the convention itself.

DEXCON (and DREAMATION) are unique conventions in several regards:
1. Attendees pay only the admission price. There are no additional charges for entering events (with the exception of the "sealed deck" or "sealed starter" events).
2. Attendees can register for as many events as they choose to.
3. The convention offers a "Con Suite", where attendees have access to snacks and soft drinks for free.
4. Plenty of parking in the Hyatt. Attendees can bring their parking ticket to the Front Desk to have it validated and parking will be free.

Below is a list of the SFR events that will be offered at DEXCON 18. The actual event numbers will be updated when the convention list of events is published.

Due to the quirk of the 4th being a Saturday, I won't have a day off of school, but can probably come up Friday night and Saturday. The boys are a question mark (girlfriends that live out of town), but I can probably bring Stef with me. (She's a heck of a demoer.)

Wish I could make it up there since DEXCON and Dreamation's format is fun, but this week is bad timing for me.

Later,

Dan-I'll be there Friday, probably around 4:30-5 and stay until late. On Saturday I'm bringing Anna (not her birthday this year), who's going to play some D&D. I should be there around 9, but I promised her I'd play a session with her from 2-6 in the afternoon. I'll stay as long as I can convince her to stay. Smile My kids are all going away together for the weekend (visiting Robert's future fiancee), so I won't have any there this year.

Do you need any products? I have at least a little of everything in the Eastern Warehouse except starters. I can bring whatever you need, and you can take care of payments with Cliff.

I'll help run events, and I'll play if needed. I suppose I should try to defend the National title, but all I really wanted was ONE TROPHY so I could quiet down my sons. Smile

Both of us are already registered, so you can use your con badges for those who are going to help you all weekend.

Hi Steve,
I have a full selection after picking up product at GenCon 2014. I did not attend DREAMATION earlier this year. I still have at least a dozen of the 2-player starter sets and have means to make "design your own" 2-player starters.

See you on Friday.

DEXCON 18 Post-Convention Results
This is a preliminary report on the SFR events at DEXCON 18.

Katy Gato won the Single Race event (US Qualifier event #1) with a Feral army. The Elephant-folk unit in that army performed yeoman service with Trample and Trumpet SAIs showing up at just the right time for several key rolls during her games.

Russ Lockwood took the Constructed Starter event (US Qualifier event #2) with a Dwarven/Lava Elf army.

Daniel Burkley won the Advanced Constructed event (US Qualifier event #3) with a polyglot army of Eldarim Champions/Goblins/Lava Elves/Firewalkers/Treefolk/Gold Medallion.

Steve Braun qualified through the Sealed Starter event (US Qualifier event #4) with a Dwarven/Feral army. As last year's winner, Steve was already qualified for participating in the final round.

Jared Schuller qualified through the Battlefest event (US Qualifier event #5) with a Frostwing/Goblin/Coral Elf/Gold Medallion army.

Steve Braun defended his US title by defeating Jared Schuller in the final event in three 1-on-1 matches. Katy and Russ could not attend the final round, and Daniel Burkley fulfilled the role of umpire for this final round.

I'll have more details on the armies and matches, along with results from the rest of the SFR events, after the convention is over on Sunday.

Congratulations Steve!

DEXCON 18 Post-Convention Results

C0519: Campaigns of Esfah: This turned out to be a 3-player game, versus a team game. A 19-tile board was used with one impassable terrain, with victory conditions to control 9 territories at the start of your turn. Politics played a prominent role. As each player managed to get 7 or 8 territories, the other two players turned on him. This event ended in a draw after 2 hours.

C0546: Dragon Dice Novice - Steven Graventrede won this event with a Treefolk army.

C0549: Daemon Dice: Fred Genere won this event.

C0583: Dragon Dice Single Race - Katy Gato won the Single Race event (US Qualifier event #1) with a Feral army. The Elephant-folk unit in that army performed yeoman service with Trample and Trumpet SAIs showing up at just the right time for several key rolls during her games. Dan Burkley had similar success with a Cannibal in his Goblin army in his match versus Jared Schuller's Undead, with the Surprise SAI showing up during Dan's melee attacks at the 6th and 7th face, and a Swallow SAI at the final attack.

C0605: Dragon Dice Novice - Paula Milano won this event with a Firewalker army.

C0614: Daemon Dice Novice - Tania Standard won this event.

C0696: Dragon Dice Constructed Starter - Russ Lockwood took this event (US Qualifier event #2) with a Dwarven/Lava Elf army.

C0727: Dragon Dice Novice - Richard Novak won this event with a Feral army.

C0761: Daemon Dice Novice - T'chaylet Handel won this event.

C0768: Dragon Dice Advanced Constructed - Daniel Burkley won the Advanced Constructed event (US Qualifier event #3) with a polyglot army of Eldarim Champions/Goblins/Lava Elves/Firewalkers/Treefolk/Gold Medallion.

C0794: Dragon Dice Novice - Daniel Courtenay won this event with a Goblin army.

C0823: Daemon Dice Novice - Ken from the Prize Table (I forgot to write down his last name) won this event.

C0832: Campaigns of Esfah - This turned out to be another 3-player game, which was good for playtesting. A 15-tile board was used with no impassable terrains, with control of 8 tiles at the start of tyhe player's turn as victory conditions. Politics played its role, but Dan Burkley Feral army managed to grab 10 terrains, eliminating Russ Lockwood's Dwarves, and holding off Steve Braun's Firewalkers to secure the win within 2 hours.

C0831: Dragon Dice Novice - No one attended this event.

C0872: Daemon Dice Novice - No one attended this event.

C0918: Dragon Dice Sealed Starter - Steve Braun qualified through the Sealed Starter event (US Qualifier event #4) with a Dwarven/Feral army. As last year's winner, Steve was already qualified for participating in the final round.

C0944: Dragon Dice Novice - Thomas Hornemann won this event with an Amazon army.

C0945: Daemon Dice Novice - No one attended this event.

C0983: Dragon Dice Battlefest - Jared Schuller qualified through the Battlefest event (US Qualifier event #5) with a Frostwing/Goblin/Coral Elf/Gold Medallion army.

C1010: Dragon Dice Novice - John Valor won this event with Undead.

C1045: Daemon Dice Novice - No one attended this event.

C1058: Dragon Dice US National Championship - Steve Braun defended his US title by defeating Jared Schuller in the final event in three 1-on-1 matches. Katy and Russ could not attend the final round, and Daniel Burkley fulfilled the role of umpire for this final round.

Steve Braun's Army:
1 x Fireshadow (Firewalker)
2 x Leopard Riders (Goblin)
1 x Unicorn (Treefolk)
1 x Troll (Goblin)
1 x Dragonlord (Eldarim)
1 x Gold Medallion
3 x Wizards (Dwarves)

1 x Highlands City
1 x Highlands Vortex
1 x Red/Gold Drake
1 x Red/Gold Wyrm
1 x Gold Dragonkin Champion
1 x Red Dragonspy
1 x Gold Dragonmount
2 x Gold Dragonscout
1 x Red Dragontroop
4 minor terrains (not used)

Jared Schuller's army:
3 x Leopard Riders (Goblin)
1 x Troll (Goblins)
3 x Wolf-folk (Feral)
1 x Yeti (Frostwing)
2 x Wolf-pack (Frostwing)
1 x Advocate (Frostwing)
1 x Apprentice (Frostwing)
1 x Vindicator (Frosting)

1 x Swampland City
1 x Swampland SFR Tower
1 x Black Drake
1 x Black Wyrm
1 x Black Dragonkin Champion
1 x Black Dragonchamp
1 x Black Dragonmount
2 x Black Dragontroop
1 x Black Dragonscout
no minor terrains

During the first match, Jared remarked that the Yeti was unintentionally in the army (he thought it was a Wolf-pack).

The first two matches followed a similar sequence of events. Steve would win the race to the first 8th Face, using Transmute Rock to Mud to hinder Jared's ability to contest the terrains. The Red/Gold Hybrid Dragons were then summoned to destroy Jared's armies. In both games, at least one breath was rolled. Jared did get one rare opportunity to summon one Black Dragon, which rolled a breath, but Steve still managed to kill it.

The last match was a slugfest, with both sides massing their armies into one and clawing their ways to the 8th Face. Jared took a little more than he gave, but both sides suffered losses. Steve won the race and captured the 8th Face. Jared continued the attack, but with double maneuvers and double saves against him, he could not damage Steve's army enough, and Steve settled it with close combat.

C1162: Campaigns of Esfah - No one attended this event on Sunday.

C1163: Daemon Dice Novice - no one attended this event.

You forgot my lone Gold Warder, needed to bring my army up to 36h. (He did a yeoman's job of being my first casualty, but later providing steady saves.)

I have to say this might have been the most fun I have had at a Dragon Dice event. Jared was trying a reroll-heavy army with no mages; his problem was that he had trouble getting back his big units from the dead. (He's going to be tweaking his design.) My army actually was based off of his 2nd place army from last year, with Wizards subbed for Enchanters to get access to Gold (Path) and Red (DL) magic, plus a couple other tweaks.

I think Dan understated how well my Red/Gold hybrids did. I haven't rolled that many breaths in a very long time.

I've played many "passive" DD games where players bunch armies and sling magic or missiles until someone gets a lucky roll. This was not one of those games. It was a melee-heavy slugfest, and has me starting to rethink the way I play DD in general.
