I brought this up to no response on another thread, but I am very curious, does anyone know ANY women that play this game? It seems like mostly (perhaps all?) guys on these boards.
The person I first played the game with was actually my sister, but now I just play with her son. She joined in for a game once last year.
Any other women gamers out there? |

I know there used to be a few women on the mail list (Rufflefuzz, Tolio, Boobunny). We had one femlae participant at ShoreCon in the years we had DD events there (Janice Filion). But it does seem to be a largely male-dominated field.
On the other hand, most CCGs have predominantly male players, and most of the "hobby" games also seem to tend that way. Even RPGs probably have more male than female players overall, but I suspect it's a little closer there. The overall impression I get is that hobby gaming in general seems to be more of a guy thing on average. _________________ Steve "DDice" Braun

My wife plays. And she plays pretty well. If I don't watch out, she can kick my butt (at Dragon Dice that is). At GenCon the last few years, out of the 20 or so "serious" players, there have been about 3-4 women that show up year after year. By serious players, I mean people that show up more that one year at GenCon, and it's quite clear that they play during the year while not at GenCon. |

You're a lucky man, Chuck. My wife can't see the appeal of dice games in general, and Dragon Dice overall, but she tolerates it as she does most of my many quirks.
In my gaming group we have two girls that play DD. Funny enough, both are named Brenda. The older Brenda will usually play Coral Elves or Feral, while younger Brenda plays with nothing but Lava Elves, and does quite well. Still beginners, they're both good players, but learning all the rules is taking some time.
My daughter Jennifer knows how to play, and will sometimes humor old Dad with a game, usually when she wants money or permission to date some new guy.
Even with these few females knowing how to play, I would say that DD (and most wargames), are played predominantly by guys. If you go to a gaming shop and ask a woman if she's heard of Dragon Dice, most will answer that they haven't (unless a boyfriend, husband, or child plays the game). Ask almost any guy, and most will admit they've heard of it.
Inside every man is a little boy that never grew up. Gaming proves it. _________________ The Maj
