At first I was a bit hesitant about the new Daemon Dice, but I'm starting to warm up to it. As I want to know a bit more about the game before I give it my final evaluation, I thought it might be a good idea to actually try it out (the rulebook tells me that the best way to learn is by simply trying it out, and who am I to argue with the rulebook? ). So, who's willing to take me through my first game?
Judging from the other game and rulebook, I think I've got a decent idea of how the game generally is supposed to go. The practical implementation will probably help to streamline the knowledge though.

That sums up how I feel. I don't know what to think, so I'm trying the game out and we'll see what I think. |

I'll take you through a game. i can't promise to be timely, but I can definately help you with the rules.
Do you have a 'roller' or other system available to you? (I've got a prototype website or real dice I can use) _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

Yay, thanks! Don't worry about timeliness, I don't mind a slower game.
As for a die-roller: I simply proxy the dice by assigning numbers to the icon table posted on these boards and rolling ordinary dice instead.
My demon:

It's a Beholder! I'm not sure whether he'd be any good, but it seems sufficient for getting to know the rules. (also, I know Beholders don't have wings, but I wanted to represent the flight-part).

And I can also provide an excel "roller" if you'd like.
Cliff, do you want a backup or somebody to take your turn if you're absent for an extended period of time? To help with the timeliness? |

I think your beholder is missing a body part. I count 12.
Hmm.. 10 eyes, 1 wings, 1 mouth, 1 brain. I wonder how that would fare. He wouldn't be able to breathe, but no matter.

Reading, it's so hard... 13 parts it is. I'll add another eye. Beholders can never have enough of those.

Thanks Chuck,
4 * Rot Arms
4 * Rot Mouths
4 * Rot Tentacles
1 * Rot Shell
My Initiative Roll:
Rot Arm - Arm
Rot Arm - Arm
Rot Arm - Arm
Rot Arm - Block
Rot Mouth - Mouth
Rot Mouth - Mouth
Rot Mouth - Mouth
Rot Mouth - Mouth
Rot Shell - Shell
Rot Tentacle - Tentacle
Rot Tentacle - Tentacle
Rot Tentacle - Plus
Rot Tentacle - Minus
1 , which is a minus. wow. you'll probably be going first.
BTW - I double checked my roller (cp.php) and other rolls didn't lean towards the same result so much. _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

So I'm imagining a rotting thing with a small turtle shell on its back that moves and engulfs things with it's many arms and tentacles into it's many mouths.
Maybe like a octopus or starfish type creature with a small shell on its backside. Hmm... |

I was viewing the shell as a little bit larger, i.e. like a sea creature or a hermit crab who is just inhabiting someone elses shell.
but same difference. Be luck I didn't pick 13 of the same body part _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

Result: 12. That's pretty decisive.
I'll start.
- 1 - Roll
- Activate: Activate all dice
- Minuses: Apply the minus to a Wing
- Roll:
Minus = , Stunned = , Wounded =
- 2 - Recover
- 3 - Defend:
- Defences
- Suffer Wounds & Stuns: no wounds and stuns
- 4 - Attack
- Grabs: none
- Minuses: 1 wing (targeting the Shell), 2 lungs and 2 normal, so 7 in total
- Attack:
Three attacks:
- normal stun
- eye with two pluses and a brain (targeting a mouth whatever turns out to be scary)
- eye with a plus
Does this look ok?

Actually, I'm rereading the icons to make a summary chart in my excel. Reading brain, it looks like you don't need to select the die you're targeting until after defense dice of the opponent are applied and you know whether the attack hits or missed. You still apply it to which attack you're using, you just don't choose the target immediately.
At first, I was thinking this makes little difference and can help speed the game along. But thinking more about it, this can actually give you an advantage if your attack is unblocked to choose the most devastating die to take the wound/stun so it won't be hurting you on your next turn.
That's at least how I'm reading the rules. |

That is correct. In a two-player game, the Brain is at least as defensive as offensive. Taking out that Tail when you know you don't have a chance of getting a Dodge is pretty much defensive. _________________ You can never have too many dice.

Thanks for the warning. I've re-read the rule, and it seems that you are right.
As for the formatting: thanks! I think I might want to switch up the coloured and the black&white images, as it makes it easier to enter mongrel deamons.
Also: I didn't realize it was possible to be immune to rays! Wow! I guess I wouldn't be playing a beholder in any competitive environment... Those immunities are harsh!

You could be a mongrel beholder.
Or with the two current races, a half-breed. 3 frost eyes and 3 rot eyes. You won't get the racial bonus, but you'll at least have half of your eyes functional. |

I like your format, I may steal it if I ever get around to making a tool to do this
but I will use my own ugly format to make yours look better...
*ROLL
So, you target the Shell and then there were 7 normal,
so I will take... the 4 mouths and 3 tentacles.
Leaving me with...
Rot Arm - Arm
Rot Arm - Stun
Rot Arm - Stun
Rot Arm - Block
Rot Tentacle - Minus
*RECOVER
nothing to do
*DEFEND
I'll use my Block to do your normal stun.
The other two are undefended (because a simple arm isn't boosted enough)
Suffer - here we have to stop. You pick the die you want the brain to hit. I won't assume or give you any ideas. _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

My brain will target a stunning arm (I'm assuming the result is lost? if not, I'll target the shell).
As for the icon: block was slightly inappropriate, but I thought it was the best available visual representation for what I needed, as it looks like the next step from the stun icon.
