I'm not really against misprints in particular, I was just quoting the definition of 'tournament-legal' from the rules. What I am all for is tournament-legality. If the rules just say that 'anything goes' for Battlefest, then what if I bring a die that has all the faces rubbed off? Not that that would benefit me, but what if instead I brought a die that was chipped on the side opposite the ID icon so that it had a tendency to roll a lot of IDs? What about a really warn-down die with rounded sides that made it hard to tell which face was facing up? I just think if there is an inclusion of 'only tournament legal dice', then everybody knows exactly what to expect. Nobody will feel ripped off or short-changed because somebody showed up with some crazy dice that totally affected the game (good or bad).

Ah OK. Now I understand. I'm not a rules lawyer and I don't even think about those type of things. Yes, you should have to bring intact dice that have ink and no broken edges. But they could be misprints or any other intact die that you have, but only for battlefest.

Battlefest has always been a unique event; it's basically been any combination of 60 health of units without restrictions. The armies that have won it have varied over the years. An all Fireshadow / Troll combination was unstoppable for a while. Then an army of mostly Firewalker magicians (Death from Above) shut that down. Lots of Frostwind magicians shut down that army but were vulnerable to other armies. In general, it's been an effort to see who can be creative in something other than a standard construction with the limitations removed. I'm sure the Board will discuss whether we need to make some minor changes to the rules to determine what exactly is or isn't legal. I tend to lean towards allowing it to use any unaltered die that have been officially produced for Dragon Dice but that's something that will need to be discussed.

Having said that, I want to make sure everyone understands that Scott was not given any preferential treatment because he was a board member; when it was questioned, I didn't hear any objections to allow him to continue using the army. The main idea was to have some fun and it was an interesting army to play against. Although I lost to Scott on a tie-breaker, it was because Scott got a good starting position and then out-played me. I've thought of a few things I would have done differently and, who knows, maybe that would have allowed me to win. Smile I haven't figure out whether those same things would have worked against Chuck, who was the other one I lost to. Oh well, maybe next year.

Just out of curiousity, how many total players participated in DD events at GenCon? That is, how many individuals participated in one or more events?

I've got all of the tournament result sheets so I'll try and post those numbers when I post all of the results. Most of the results have already been mentioned by various players but I'll go through all the sheets and post a list of all of the tournaments and the top four for each one (except novice events).
