Your tactics seem to be growing pretty well on their own Wink

As far as construction goes, everyone has different styles in army construction. I tend to favor a mix with more commons and uncommons, others favor rare units. One thing I would do is take out a Heucava and replace it with 2 apparitions, as that will generate a small bit more magic. Another thing to do is to replace an apparition with a black sight stone. Since Undead can cast only black anyway, it works out pretty well. Maybe take out a couple of wraiths and put in some skeletons. But like I said, your army did very well as is.

The Undead have a great assortment of spells. Since they are all one color and that color can be doubled at any terrain, it just makes them that much better.

I think we have a rising star.... Raven Bloodeyes
nicely done.

I have a question for this game:
If there was not a fade on the Vampire at the 8th face,
and the dragons did attack and Kill the Vampire,
after step damage,
would the step damage unit still have
to save the remainder of the dragon attack damage?

Thanks..... Embarassed .....

Anyway, the two examples in the rules of Stepped Damage in the "Exchanging Units from the DUA" section, both show I could have kept the 8th face by stepping down to a lower health Undead unit after being killed.

What I couldn't find was any clear mention on the resolution order of damage. If damage is resolved, then units are selected to be killed, then as a result there is Stepped damage, my gut would say the damage has been resolved, so there isn't any overflow damage left to hit this Stepped-Down-To Unit. BUT, I may be wrong, I'm curious to hear a ruling on this one too. Good question!

During any attack (melee, missile, magic, or dragon), the army removes units to account for the damage, possibly all the units in the army. That part is then over. Undead can then use their stepped damage ability to swap dice back into the army. So, the army is still there, and any spells, dragonkin, magical item, etc. is still there.

So basically, if an army controlling an 8th face consists of one rare Undead unit and that army takes 100 points of damage, then the rare unit is killed (to account for the damage). The army is then finished taking damage (because all the units that were in it are now dead). The rare undead unit now activates the stepped damage ability and swaps in an uncommon undead unit. The army still exits and continues to hold the 8th face.

That's pretty cool piMaster, thank you
I think I will add this to the tips and tricks.

would this work for Smite too?

Example .....
Smite:

The Undead units belong to the Smited player.

If an uncommon Undead is alone at a terrain,
and a common undead is in the DUA,
would a Smite kill the uncommon unit,
and then the stepped damaged unit would
replace the uncommon without damage?

Remember the order of events. The opponent attacks you in melee and generates a smite. When the smite is resolved, the uncommon undead unit is killed (because its the only unit there). Stepped damage kicks in and a common undead takes it place. You opponent could then resolve other SAIs against the common unit. The common unit would also then have to save against any normal damage done to the army.
