I was going through a few old posts from the old DD mail list, and I came across this one from October 6, 1999. Yep, that's me as a relative newbie, posting on the old list. (For new newbies, "MNF" was Monday Night Fights, the old weekly online DD game hosted by Andrew Hart (aka Taven) I actually learned to really play DD at MNF.) I suggested an NFL-themed army, which seems appropriate as the new season is beginning. As you'll see, I was up to no good even back then. I left my original signature, with the old DDRC name and address, and my Collectors Registry abbreviation (which even I don't remember what everything stands for, and I invented it!).
-----
I came across an old web site with an article from Dragon magazine concerning army construction. (Those must have been the days!) The end of the article mentioned "theme armies," and had as an example a "Wizard of Oz" army.
I thought the idea was kind of cool. So, without further rambling, here is my "NFL on MNF" (got a plug in, Taven) 36-point army:
"Eagle" Knight
Filcher ("Stealer")
War "Chief"
"Lion"-folk
"Bear"-folk
("Bengal") Tiger-folk
"Buffalo"-folk (OK, they're the Bills, but there's a buffalo on the helmet.)
Horse ("Bronco")-folk
(Sea)"Hawk"-folk
"Falcon"-folk
Swamp "Giant" (Hey, what do you think the "Meadowlands" are?)
"Raider"
Any 2 pt. Scalder (They all have "Red Skins") OR, if you don't mind a little
more of a stretch, a "Jaguar"-folk. (Leopards and Jaguars are pretty close
relations...)
Of course, to get a Dragon you need to add NFL Europe (Barcelona), but that's OK.
Just thought I'd add a little surrealism to your otherwise normal day...

I'm still holding out hope that someday there will be Dragon Dice Vikings...
Until then, I have to settle for this:
