| If by 3rd edition you mean some house-rules hybrid of D&D 3rd edition and 3.5. |

litle nuance;
I used to play d&d 3rd ed. but with the new version releases from Wotc, especially the speed at witch they come out with new rules, I am now switching over to Gurps. (d20 doesn't do it for me either...)

Unfortunately I first got engaged into DSA, the German equivalent to D&D, in 1985. Was my first RPG ever. Later I found out about D&D but my friends and I had been too deep into DSA allready so we didn't want to start all over again and stayed with DSA. _________________

If it's one thing I've learned from the forum, it's that hardly anybody votes. I'd also be willing to bet that a lot of those views are people coming back to check how a poll is doing.
Start all the polls you want, but don't count on a lot of interest. Sad, sad, sad. _________________ The Maj

First we had the Original D&D, Basic D&D, AD&D, 2nd Ed D&D, 2.5 Revised D&D and everybody was happy
Then they brought out 3rd Edition and totaly spolied a great game , followed very soon after with 3.5 to to try and recover from all the complains they got from the public .
My view and you will not change it |

3rd Ed D&D fixed all the major flaws in what was an ambiguous, contradictory and confusing system that was wide open to majorly broken power gaming. Not only have they streamlined the system and made it relatively easier to play, they have created a system that has a much larger scope for customisation and strategy. I was as annoyed as anybody else that they brought out 3.5 so soon after 3, but I would much prefer a company that updates its product by fixing holes and making it better than allowing any evident flaws to remain stagnant. You can't expect someone to create a game that is both new (as 3rd Ed practically is) and as large in scale and as wide reaching as 3rd Ed to be perfect. Besides, you aren't forced to buy 3.5, 3rd Ed is more than sufficient to have a fantastic game and be able to use current products with little or no changes. _________________ My cutthroat's two-faced, is yours? |

| I know this is little late for the topic, but I just started on this forum. I've quit D&D all together, because it was just getting too complicated. I wanted old school RPG, using mostly cinematic movement vice actual gridded movement. That's where I found Castles and Crusades, it's old school D&D, add d20, and fix a majority of the problems of D&D and AD&D. Anyway, that's my two cents... |
