|
|
I was reading the Colorado Springs Guild Meetings thread and thought the rank idea was pretty good. My question is (primarily to the members of the Windy City Bone Rollers) should we adopt a similar system as outlined below?
- - - - - - -
All members (especially Chuck Pint ) start out at zero points. There are 55 ranks total. You earn your first rank at 25 points and move up one rank for each additional 25 points. Points are determined as follows:
6 points- Win (either by capturing 2 eighth faces or being the only player with units in play).
4 points- Win a game called on time. Follow the usual tiebreaker rules.
2 points- Lose a game called on time. Follow the usual tiebreaker rules.
>>> apply these bonuses to the player's point total if applicable <<<
+1 point for controlling an eighth face when the game ends (not applied if you won the game outright).
+1 point for having no units in your DUA when the game ends.
+1 point for having no dice in your BUA when the game ends.
The ranks are as follows:
1-Guard
2-Sentry
3-Trickster
4-Bladesman
5-Darter
6-Shadowchaser
7-Ghoul
8-Falcon-folk
9-Warmonger
10-Attacker
11-Dragonne Tender
12-Hamadryad
13-Dragonscout
14-Knight
15-Sergeant
16-Hedge Wizard
17-Spy
18-Battle Rider
19-Firemaster
20-Wight
21-Badger-folk
22-Raider
23-Magus
24-Burner
25-Naiad
26-Dragonhero
27-Sharpshooter
28-Warlord
29-Leopard Rider
30-Assassin
31-War Driver
32-Ashbringer
33-Death Knight
34-Tiger-folk
35-Annihilator
36-Devastator
37-Inferno
38-Oak Lord
39-Dragonsteed
40-Coral Giant
41-Umber Hulk
42-Death Naga
43-Beholder
44-Chimera
45-Phoenix
46-Dracolich
47-Bear-folk
48-Ormyrr
49-Frost Ogre
50-Unseeli Faerie
51-Unicorn
52-Dragonkin Champion
53-Dragonhunter
54-Dragonmaster
55-Kings' Die (AKA Guildmaster)

Interesting Concept...
I assume this is working well in colorado? What would people think about adopting this for a national ranking system? it could help the Rep program to take off if people were playing nationally.
Of course this suffers from advanced players beating up on beginners for points. But a system like Chess has is almost too complex for a game like dragon dice. |

I like our occasion trophies we play for.
I think different point values should be assigned for different tournaments.
example:
The upcomming Windy City Bone Rollers Tournament.
Battlefest:
Chuck is the current Battlefest Champion,
and undefeated too!!!
If a player won this multiplayer Battlefest,
a full rank should be awarded.(25 points)
Multiplayer games should be worth more points.
I voted yes..... |

A national ranking system would be fine with me. Of course, you should only get points for official group meetings (like the Windy City Bone Rollers) and tournaments.
In order to prevent advanced players from beating up beginners, the group leader should have the highest ranking people playing against each other and the lower ranking people playing against each other (like the rounds in a tournament event are run).

I think that different points for each format or the number of players would be too unwieldy and unfair if others adopt it. In your example Jim, the Windy City Bone Rollers would be the only group where you could advance a full rank in a battlefest game because that is where Chuck plays, which is unfair to the other groups.
Of course, we can still have our occasional trophies. Thanks for voting yes!

Another question: What happens when a Guildmaster wins a game? Obviously the Guildmaster doesn't need any more points.
(a) The points the Guildmaster would have gotten instead go to the second place winner.
(b) The points the Guildmaster would have gotten instead get divided equally among the other players.
(c) ??? |

Additional rule for awarding points: if you win the game in the first round, then you get 25 points (but no bonuses apply).
It is possible, I've done it! (see the second game in the entry for June 2004: http://www.chuckpint.com/windy.html ) |

Just a thought:
If this were adopted as a national ranking system, then players could use forum games to increase their ranks. |

Forum games are on the honor system. But there is nothing to prevent cheating. I don't mind games for fun, but as soon as someone thinks they have something to earn, the pressure to cheat exists. I'd rather not chance it. And to further back that up, I'd say that only games conducted by SFR game reps, are allowed to earn ranking points. Which of course, puts more pressure on SFR to get the game reps program up and running. But that's not a bad thing in this case. _________________ You can never have too many dice.
