During a game this weekend, my undead army was at a terrain, and my fiance's coral elves were huddled into reserves. I rolled for magic, and was going to target her reserve army with finger of deaths. She argued that I cannot do that. I disagreed. Can someone reply to this post, just so she knows that a reserve army is still an army and therefore can be targeted with magic.

Thanks

I think I know why she was confused. An army in reserves cannot cast magic that effects any opponents' armies or units. So an army in reserves can not harm any thing. However, the reverse is not true. An army in reserves can be harmed by any spell that targets armies. Units in a reserve can be harmed by any spell that targets units. There are special effects on the reserves that can harm units in reserves. See the Swampstalker racial abilities.

In any case, while reserves are safer than at a terrain, they are not completely safe.
