Flaming Shields: Firewalkers may, during a melee attack, count save results as if they were melee results.

Racial Abilities general rule page 20. " These results are never 'converted' into another result, they are only counted in addition to the result the army is trying to generate."

Burning hands "....the target units melee results are doubled....."

When under the effects of a burning hands spell can a firewalker double it's flaming shield results? Or because the results are not converted from saves to melee results is it not allowed? I have been getting my butt kicked by burning hands Firewalkers and need to see if we are playing this correct.

No, because save icons are not melee results.

However, if said firewalker unit was part of any army that controlled an 8th face, then the save results would be doubled and then counted as melee results.

Remember the order in which spell and other effects are applied. First apply to any units, then apply to armies. The order is subtract, divide, multiply, racial, add. So lets take the case of an attack by Firewalkers with one unit having Burning Hands cast on it.

First you take care of any Instant SAIs. Mostly those are effects that cause a reroll. Then resolve any Special or Unique SAIs. Then you take care of unit effects. If the unit with Burning Hands rolls melee, then you double it. Otherwise, don't. Now you count up your melee and saves. When you get to racial, you take the save results and add them to your melee results. Now you have your final melee results.

Note that since doubling (multiply) happens before racial, if the unit rolls saves, it does not have any melee results to double. On the other hand, it does not use up the Burning Hands spell.
