1) Is there any way to destroy a medallion other than to eliminate the army it is in?

2) I'm assuming that Exploding Stone will not work for #1 because medallions are not considered items, correct?

3) A 12-pt Exploding Stone will destroy a rare item, correct?

No.

No, and no. Explode Stone only works on common magic items. Medallions are considered magic items. They are not elemental magic, they are "metallic" magic (what ever that is). They are simply four points of health.

No. See above.

Thanks. The reason I was confused is that Explode Stone is not worded as "target a common magic item," it is worded as "target any enemy 1-health (common) magical item." Since most spells that target 1-health of units can be cast multiple times to affect an uncommon or rare unit, I thought that perhaps Explode Stone could too.

Spells that say "target one health-worth of ..." can be cast multiple times to affect a multi-health unit/item (for example: Spark of Life or Reforge Item). Also note that these types of spells always have a "multiple castings increase the number of health affected" - number of health affected does not have to be equal to the number of dice affected.

Explode Stone says target any one health item. The last sentence also states that multiple castings target multiple items - that means that if you cast it two times, you must target two different items.

So, best advice when reading spell/SAI descriptions is to read them carefully and fully. Also, read the reference sections on spells and SAIs as well. There is lots of good info there as well.

The word common is there to remind you that a 1-health item is also known as a common item. It is kind of redundant since all common dice are worth one health.

No, there are many "one health-worth" spells that don't include the sentence "multiple castings increase the number of health affected" . For example, Ashes to Ashes, all 4 of the regenerate spells, Dust to Dust, etc. There is catch-all comment at the top of the spell list that says "unless otherwise noted, multiple castings increase the effect, and/or may target another." So it is a little confusing when some of the "one health-worth" include the additional sentence and some don't; it implies there is a difference between the two.

As far as the earlier point about "multiple castings affect multiple...", it would be a little clearer if it said "multiple castings must target different ..."

Thanks again for the clarifications!

Note: You are confusing the official rules with the unofficial one-page spell reference sheet. For all questions about the rules, refer only to the official PDF rules on the website.

BTW, we spend years on these rules. After many passes thru them, "multiple castings affect multiple targets" is the most accurate way to say what we wanted to say. Saying "different targets", does not work exactly the way we wanted. I can dig up the pages of notes I have on this, but I remember this discussion on that very topic going on for nearly a month, with dozens of emails each day about it.

I don't mean to shutdown any discussion of how the rules can be changed, but with these rules printed in our new 2-player starters, we need a very good reason to change them.

As Chuck said, always refer to the PDF rules from the website when a question arises or you need more information. For questions about casting the same spell multiple times, refer to page 28 of the PDF rules (the section on Multiplicity).
