At the start of the game when you are dividing your units/items into your three armies (home, horde, campaign), I know the Kings' Die goes into the reserve army.
Question is, can you choose to put a magical item with the Kings' Die in the Reserve Army during setup, or must all magical items goto a terrain during setup? |

No.
The Kings' Die is a special exception to the rest of the army setup. During army setup, you have to divide your components (units plus any magic items) into three armies. If you have a Kings' Die, then it (and only it) must go into the reserves.
And you cannot simply put a magic item into the reserves at the end of your first turn either. It has to be carried by a unit into reserves. At the end of your second turn, the unit could leave the reserves, leaving only the magic item and the Kings' Die in reserves. _________________ You can never have too many dice.
