|

1) I remember a discussion a while back about Battlefest construction, but I can't find it. The tournament rules say "There is no restriction on army construction." But I recall a question about whether or not there were limits on Eldarim. In BF, are you still limited to the number of DH/DS/DM/DL matching the number of dragons brought, or is that restriction also lifted? (I recall building BF armies with the restriction of 3.)
2) The Sealed Box rules say to play out of the box, with army size of 30. Should this be updated to 36? (Anyway, I'm thinking of using the option allowed and calling for 24h armies.) _________________ Steve "DDice" Braun

This event isn't for the timid or weak! Bring your toughest 60-health army and join the night's battle of blood and mayhem. Bring a 60-health army composed of any combination of tournament legal dice. None of the normal army construction limits, including limitations on the number of magic users or number of any individual die, apply. |

Last second surprises in a tournament are very discouraging to Dragon Dice players.
I remember showing up to the worlds and finding out that magic will only be doubled on IDs, and that dragon breathes were changed.
Chuck has mentioned that GenCon will be 36 health sealed box.
If you are planning on 24 health, you should announce this to the players
before they show up to the tournament as a courtesy.
I know it is your call and tournament and all,
but from a players perspective,
last second switches are not what we like.
Good Luck |

A switch in Sealed Box shouldn't be a problem. You don't have a choice as to which dice you're going to get (other than choosing your starter); the only option left is which dice out of the box you'll be using. The reason for going with 24h is that otherwise your only choice is which terrains you will play. This allows a little army building choice, and also can help ameliorate the random dice selection a bit.
The rules will not change from the existing Starter Box rules. Unless players show up thinking an old rules set is current, that won't create any problems. And it's up to players to be up-to-date on rules, or to review the new rules there. All events for DexCon are played under the Starter Box rules, with the exception of Novice, but most of those players are just learning the game anyway. _________________ Steve "DDice" Braun

Playing with 36 health creates an army that a player would not normally select,
this then bring strategy into play,
versus stripping out dice in order to construct a traditional army.
I like the randomness of 36 health,
knowing that the other players will have this same randomness,
creates a playing field of unpredictability. |

Updated the website description to make it clearer for Sealed Box. I'll get the tournament rules updated. But note that the tournament formats in the tournament rules are only suggestions. The convention event posting has the final say. _________________ You can never have too many dice.

Steve, you must have an old copy of the tournament rules. I was going to update the rules, and found that the source file was already updated to state 36-health. I thought maybe I had not updated the website, but the rules up there also had 36-health. SFR's tournament rules can be download from here. _________________ You can never have too many dice.
