Maybe this is just me being dizzy, but I've never considered that fact that you can promote DKin as a result of killing a dragon. Thats legal right?

Yes dragonkin can promote by killing a dragon

Another thing common overlooked in dragonkin promotion
is that they can promote to a different color....
and demote to a different color too in the case of degenerate dragonkin.

One other quick point.
Any unit can be present to keep the dragonkin,
not just ones matching the dragonkin color.
