I just want to open a discussion to get peoples viewpoints.
Not all variations have equal rarity. Chuck does not track variations (I would like to point out that noone has to take his values as religious (I think he would agree) so dont get bent out of shape if someone deviates from his values)
anyway, back on topic. when you do personal trading, do you consider variations as different valued? (I do if the rarity is known) _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

I don't track variations mostly because there is so little information on them in terms of different rarity. Since nothing is really known about how they happened, all we are left with is guesses.
While a lot of thought goes into my trading points, the fact of the matter is, that's what I value the dice at. I have been known to change the values, simply because I wanted more or less of a particular die. So don't take them as gospel. Except when trading with me of course..... _________________ You can never have too many dice.

I agree. I have a unique perspective since I see all dice, so I can guess at some rarity, but others I'm as in the dark as anyone.
anyone out there Not value a fairy highly? :-p _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

From the collector's point of view I do care about different variations and want to have at least one of each (but throw them mixed into the game, since variations don't effect gameplay).
I know that Chuck's point values aren't the holy bible, but consider it recommendable to stay close to those values since Chuck is one of the very few guys who - if everyone - can judge rarity and value BEST, since he's sitting right at the "roots of the dice tree", LOL.
However, there are some point values I personally disagree with (like i.e. some prototypes, which never went into production and which actually should be valued higher. But this again is seen from the collector's point of view, it doesn't matter if you play a prototype por a production die in the game.
Same with the above mentioned variations. Since Dragon Dice is a collectible dice game, thecollector's point of view should be seriously considered as well, which leads to the conclusion that variations of higher rarity should - in my humble opinion - be valued higher than the others.
It doesn't matter how the variations happened to exist! They are there, they are wanted by collectors and they're rarer than others, hence: higher trading point value!
Same with different editions, like SFR vs TSR Swampies, Scalders and Frosties. They're all of the same values, but take a look at the prices they go for! Some should be risen in value by now.
On the other hand: nobody can expect Chuck to calculate EVERY variation and different edition! I guess - in the end - it's up to the trading parties to negotiate trading values.
But at least getting some rarity information (if available) would be great! _________________

That's the problem with variations, we don't know the rarity at all. No information.
As I've said elsewhere, the Scalder and Frostwing are clearly different because of the different ink color. The Swamp Stalkers are not as clear. While the overlap in plastic color is small (very small), there is some overlap. They are not designed to be different, so I don't carry them as such.
BTW, believe it or not, but as best we can tell, the Scalder original, reprints, and promo that got into people's hands are all in about the same numbers. Frostwing originals are slightly more than the reprint and promo, but not by a lot. Now if SFR ever makes more Scalder or Frostwing kickers, then the values may have to change.
Now, if someone asks me for a specific variation or color, I try and do that. A few years ago, someone wanted a complete set composed only of "Mud Goblins". That was a tough one. In the end, there was a disagreement about a couple of them not being "muddy" enough. Stuff ended up getting shipped back and forth a number of times. In the end, I don't think anyone involved was completely happy.
Also, just so everyone knows, I set most of the prices long before I was an "insider" at SFR. And with a very few exceptions, only a few prices changed because of "inside" knowledge. As I've said over and over, those values are what I value the dice at. Your value may vary.... _________________ You can never have too many dice.

Personally I don't like the middu goblins. I took a long time to collect 18health of the 'clean' goblins. the same on swamps and flatlands. They look weird because they are the colors they are supposed to be. you get used to the muddy gold. _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

I'm still working on collecting the Mud Goblin Monsters,
as far as I know, Mud Goblin Monsters were never made
until the New Starters. |
