This thread is for suggestions for the "Player's Choice" game at GenCon 2008. Please detail exactly the army construction and any other non-standard rules that would apply. All games are 36-health, standard construction except as specifically stated otherwise.

Opposites Attract
36 Health, no more than half your army can be mages. Choose two races with no colors in common and bring 18 health-worth of each race. Amazons, Eldarim, Kings' Die, and Magical Items/Artifacts/Medallions are not allowed. Standard tournament rules.

Night of the Living Dead
Your starting forces follow the standard army construction rules, except you cannot use Undead units. You must also bring an extra pool of Undead units (the Conversion Pool). For each unit in your starting forces, you must have an Undead unit in the Conversion Pool of the same health size as noted in this table:
Unit in ArmyCorresponding unit in Conversion Pool
HeavyHeavy
Light
Light Missile
Light
Missile
Heavy Missile
Light Magic
CavalryCavalvy
MagicHeavy Magic
Dragonlord
Dragonmaster
Fireshadow
Unseeli Faerie
Dracolich
Dragonslayer
Dragonhunter
any other monster
Carrion Crawler
Fenhound
Minor Death
Skeletal Steed
Kings' Dienone

For example, if your army contains a Footman (common heavy unit), your Conversion Pool must contain a Zombie (also a common heavy unit).

At the start of the game, the Undead units in the Conversion Pool are set off to the side (by the DUA and BUA, but seperate from them). When units are killed or buied, they go to the DUA or BUA as normal. When a non-Undead unit in the DUA is revived (either by spells or SAIs), the unit is swapped with an Undead unit (of the same size and class as noted in the table above) from the Conversion Pool on its way to the army that revived it. No swapping is done if the unit is revived by promotion, racial abilities, or recruitment.

Example: Your army casts Spark of Life to revive a Lizard Rider in your DUA. The Lizard Rider goes to the Conversion Pool and the army gets a Spectre instead.

Example: Your army can promote a unit due to controlling a City 8th face. At the start of your turn, you decide to promote a Knight to an Eagle Knight. The Knight goes to your DUA and the Eagle Knight goes to your army.

Example: Your army rolls for saves and gets a Wild Growth SAI. Since Wild Growth promotes units, you do not swap the revived units with Undead units in the Conversion Pool.

Dragon's Rage- Intermediate-style tournament (no Magestorm or promo dice) with 26h armies-so each player brings 2 dragons. Dragons become a much greater threat than usual given the small army size vs. the number of available dragons. Unlike the demo game, where getting 7 points of magic with 18h of mixed units (and no doubling), summoning a dragon shouldn't be too hard...

I would like to suggest: Monoliths
Monoliths

Each Player may bring 1 Monolith: (Summoning Pool)
But umm... there are no monoliths.....

So here is what I propose.

Magic Items: Captured at Specified Face
(must match terrain color)
Note: Deadlands will activate a Monolith if at the proper face and the monolith is black.

Magi's Crown: 1st Magic

Trebuchet: 4th Missile

Example:
Green Trebuchet
As long as the terrain is green and on Missile 4,
the army that turns it to this face captures the monolith.

Blade Golem: 7th Melee

Once a terrain matching the color of a monolith is on the proper face,
the monolith can be captured.
(The army must also be able to carry the monolith)
If the Face is changed, return the Monlith to the summoning Pool.
Each player rolls their monolith, even if they did not capture it.
More than one monolith may be captured as long as the army can carry it.

I may add more monoliths to the list.

I would propose my Multiple Frontier, but I don't really like the way the online game is going (probably cause I'm losing) so I won't.

My other idea is that thing I posted about in that place that noone can see, but if we can't do it. I don't wanna say it here.

Cliff, let's talk about that elsewhere. But my gut feeling is that we won't be ready to talk about it publicly by May 1. So move along, nothing to see here.

Ok, I'll throw out this teaser; there may be a super-secret play-test of a new SFR product at GenCon. If you're there, you may get asked to help play-test. Shocked

BTW, bugging me or Cliff about it before GenCon will just get us ticked off at you. There are worst things that just being banned. Ask Steve.....

Yo,

Some thoughts off the top of my head:

Standard rules, but armies composed of:
* All the same unit

* All the same size (or 1/2 of one size & 1/2 another)

* only one of each Rolling Eyes given unit component

* ALL magicians! (or other type, or any one type)

Rules tweaks:
* High Magic: allow all magic to be doubled

* High Mayhem: allow charging, but no cavalry or "skirmisher" (for those races whose cavalry doesn't ride anything) units

* Old School: both of the above with cavalry

* Fighting Dragons: dragons become part of your army, and behave like Dragonkin.

* The Forge: bring a stash of magic items in a summoning pool that enter play via promotion effects or the ReForge Item spell.

* Epic: 100 point armies.

* Teams: Exact tweaks TBD.

We had many suggestions for tournament events on this thread:

http://www.sfr-inc.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=531

Of course, that thread is in a somewhat notorious section of the forum...

(Although I like the idea of Loserfest, with players building 24h armies and armies being traded before play. Score by army, not player, and loser take all. Might actually see an Ormyrr in play...)

Actually I like the idea of "Everyone's Equal". Anyone want to take a shot at the actual construction? I'd suggest a mix of commons, uncommon, and rares or maybe even (common) monsters. If it's out of the first 4 races, there would be little problem putting it together.

If you really want to be 'equal', you can't do army construction. Some players like magic, some like missile, some like melee.

So you compromise and make everyone equally grumpy.

I like Cliff's idea of mixing up the races. However, I'd like to see it MORE interesting, with all the Elder races involved:

9 health each (1 rare, 1 uncommon, 4 commons) of

Coral Elf magic
Dwarf heavy infantry
Goblin cavalry
Lava Elf missile

Each race gets something it's "good" at. Magic is somewhat downplayed, since the CE don't match a color with any other race, but it still makes Lightning Strike a force. The rares bring Cantrip, Smite, Rend, and Bullseye. The middle faces could be tough, depending on the terrains. (Would these be set, or would players have a choice from a limited selection?)

I suspect this would play a lot like a Firewalker army (jack of all trades). Obviously luck would be a huge factor, but there are a lot of tactical decisions to be made.

I'd say that all the dice would be provided, including terrains and dragons. No Magestorm! dice would make the format more an "intermediate" type game. I would have all other rules (racial, racial spells) in play.

So to make it interesting, have them bring a Coastland Temple, and a Highland City. I'd leave out Towers and Standing Stones so that missile and magic are less important. I also would not want a Swampland since the Goblin cavalry will already have a lot more maneuvers than the other races.

For dragons, a green Drake and either a red, black, or gold Wyrm. The green Drake can only be summoned with the Coral Elves, but since they are the mages, make it a Drake. The other dragon cannot be summoned by Coral Elves, but matches a color that two of the other races have. I could go either way, but I'd lean toward the red Wyrm, it's breath is the simplest.

This is a fun format that allows players to bring ALL their Dragon Masters/Hunters

Crystal Dragon

http://sfr-inc.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=1126

Although I'm still refining the rules...
Refined Rules
basically
a Crystal Dragon heals.
It creates a fountain of youth for the armies...
and allows racial spells to be cast in its presence.

A spell of one of every color transforms any dragon into a crystal dragon.
