We've always talked about it, so my son and I took our armies to the pool this weekend and played.
The dice do sink and you can roll them, but water is much thicker than air, so you can really see the dice tumble.
If you want to play in deep water, practice some hand signals for declaring actions and learn to hold your breath a long time.
There are two downsides to this way of playing. First, As misstiffany says we all looked wierd with our heads underwater and our bu... uhm.. feet sticking up in the air. Second, the dice do sink but aren't heavy so water currents move them around a lot. The division of armies is hard to keep. Especially when you come up for air so much and have to dive to the bottom. you create currents which turn your nice game setup into a mash of dice. You also have to move your hands slowly to pick up dice or you create a current which sends the other dice sliding around.
We have some magic cards that we got at Gencon (freebies, I'd never pay for it), but he won't let me take those into the pool to play. )-; _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

Sounds cool...
perhaps some glass dome to keep the dice from moving in the current...
A glass dome could be like an army card. |

Also you may be able to play...aquarium style...
meaning you would not be underwater...just the dice.
perhaps some neat slides that roll the dice while you watch...
this would be a great way to play my new format...
| Quote: | Format is: Lost City of Atlantis
36 health, no more than half your army can be mages. Your home terrain must be a Standing Stones, and your proposed frontier terrain must be a City. All dragons must be drakes. If you bring minor terrains, they must be Woods. In order to win, you must capture the frontier and at least one home terrain. |
this is the next Windy City Bone Rollers format
perhaps I can come up with a Water Dragon Rolling dome for the meeteing. |

We put Magic cards and Dragon Dice into a clear jug of water as a display at cons, called "Why Dice Are Better Than Cards." _________________ Steve "DDice" Braun

Dragon Dice surprisingly sink quite quickly in water...
this only adds more suspicion as to the mythological Unseelie fish tank bottom in China. |
