Hello all,
I put forth that 36 points is the ideal army size for this game.My points being as follows:

1. 2 dragons pose an even threat to even a full 36 pt army. As opposed to 3 dragons vs a higher pt army (either mages cant get 3 dragons to one terrain, or the army has no problem, being 60 points or so, dealing with 3 dragons, as more than likely at least 1 will roll a belly or treasure, or an opposing army can easily summon a conflicting dragon to the terrain to keep the other dragons occupied.

2.36 points of units is about the max for keeping track of what types of units you have and what thier abilities are, especially when showing other people how to play the game.

3.It seems that this game is (as its name implies) is geared toward Dragons being the "ultimate weapon" and with the 24pt requirement to bringing another dragon into play, the army vs dragon power scew goes way out of wack after 2 dragons per player.I guess this is kind of what point 1 is saying.

Anyway, Any thoughts?

Smaller army sizes work better because magic doesn't scale well. Resolving a magic action takes an increasing amount of time as the army size increases (and since everyone takes a magic action each turn, the game can really start to drag). Also, alot of spells don't scale well for large armies (for example, Flash Flood).

I'd say that the restriction on mages should increase as the army size increases. For example:

1-72 health: no more than 50% mages
73-144 health: no more than 25% mages
145-216 health: no more than 10% mages
217+ health: no mages allowed

Easier mage restriction:

No more than 50% or 20 health of mages, whichever is less.

Cliff has explained that the game is heavier in damage, than it is in saves...so the game will actually end.

With 36 health,
the game is right about at the point where the levels do not get overstacked...
however,
when losing a a few health...like maybe even just a rare....
the balance between players can be affected, versus a larger 60 health.

With 60 health armies or even larger...
you gain from spells like dancing lights...
as
a small spell can halve an army's magic...
or Wall of Fog...
halving maneuvers for an entire 60 health army.
So here the magic seems to gain more power...and pays very little.
