|

I left the game 5 years ago when the option to charge was removed, and even now that I'm over that old irritation and back in the game, it annoys me that Trample is now strictly worse than Rend when it used to be one of the deadliest abilities in the game.
I've been thinking, wouldn't it be fairly easy to fix the abusiveness of charging just by ruling that only the rolled number of maneuvers apply? No doubling from racial abilities, minor terrains, 8th faces, or spells? This would turn charging back into just "more death" for both sides, speeding the game but not being too abusive, I wouldn't think.
But then, I've never played against an army of 12 Mammoth Riders, so maybe it really was as bad as they say....
Just a thought. _________________ Designer of Hybrid Dragon Breaths, the Enchant Element spell, new colored Dragonkin Breaths, and various homebrew races and dragons. If you want to know where to find them...good luck, I don't remember anymore. |

Well, Trample is a bit more powerful than you might think. See these threads:

The first link doesn't mention Trample anywhere that I can see. The second link does say that Trample is good just because it counts as two things, which is true. But my point is, Rend does everything Trample does plus something else besides, so monsters that have Trample instead of Rend now look pathetic.
I'm still inclined to think that just ruling that the maneuver results are converted to melee without being doubled would be enough of a fix. Sure it contradicts the standard computation sequence, but there's no reason it couldn't just be an exception clause. I think I'm going to try this as an "official" house rule and see whether it breaks. _________________ Designer of Hybrid Dragon Breaths, the Enchant Element spell, new colored Dragonkin Breaths, and various homebrew races and dragons. For the first link see the second page of the thread. Very useful information about Trample. _________________ You can never have too many dice.
