This is a game variant you might get your "significant other" to play if they are not normally inclined to play Dragon Dice. This game is derived from dice games like Yahtzee or Kismet, and if the Goblins were to play this, they would call it "Rotsi".
To play, you need 5 dice (one of each different type uncommon die) from the race of your choice, and a piece of paper (or you can PM me with your e-mail address for a customized scoresheet as an Excel file).
There are 13 rounds. During a round, each player takes a turn rolling the 5 dice, trying to score in one of 13 catagories. During a player's turn, after the initial throw of the dice, the player may keep any of the dice rolled and/or choose any of the dice to re-roll. After the re-roll, the player may keep any of the dice rolled, and/or choose to re-roll any dice. After this second re-roll (if any), the dice must be scored in one of the 13 catagories that has not yet been scored for.
The Catagories: There are two sections (Top and Bottom).
TOP SECTION (6 catagories):
ID icons - score 1 point per ID icon
Magic icons - score 1 point per Magic icon
Maneuver icons - score 1 point per Maneuver icon
Melee icons - score 1 point per Melee icon
Missile icons - score 1 point per Missile icon
Save icons - score 1 point per Save icon
BOTTON SECTION (7 catagories):
3+ dice with the same icon - score 1 point per the same icon on 3 or more dice.
4+ dice with the same icon - score 1 point per the same icon on 4
or more dice.
Same icons on 3 dice + same icons on 2 dice - score 1 point per icon on all the dice.
4 dice each have different icons - score 1 point per icon on all the dice.
All dice each have different icons - score 1 point per icon on all the dice.
"ROTSI" (5 of a kind) - score 25 points.
WILD THROW (any combination of icons) - score 1 point per icon on all the dice.
As each round is completed, there will be one less catagory available to score. After 13 rounds, all catagories will have a score assigned.
Add up all the scores for the Top Section. If the score was 27+, the player gets a 10 point bonus. Add the scores for the Bottom Section and combine with the total score from the Top Section. The player with the highest total wins the game.
I have tried this with each player rolling a different race of 5 uncommons (all different), using Coral Elves, Lava Elves, and Goblins. The total number of icons should still be the same, but some combinations of icons may be easier to roll for some races versus others (Undead have no missile icons, Frostwings have the Fly SAI, and if you count that as maneuvers or saves, that makes a lot of combinations easier to meet - so I would not recommend using those two races, unless all players are rolling the same set of dice).
It's an excellant game for players familiar with Yahtzee or Kismet to get acquainted with Dragon Dice icons, which is one step closer to teaching them Dragon Dice.
