HISTORICON 2009 will be July 16 - 19 2009 (Theme: "Ride to the Sound of the Guns!" Napoleon's 1809 Campaign and the Spanish Ulcer) at the Lancaster Host Resort Hotel, Lancaster, PA. This is a 4 day historical miniatures show organized by HMGS East (Website at http://www.historicon.org).

As was done earlier this year at COLD WARS 2009, I will run some Dragon Dice events Thursday night, Friday night, and Saturday night at 7PM in the Lampeteer Exhibition Hall (where the Flea Market is held during the day). I had 8 players at the earlier show for beginner/intermediate events, so I hope to surpass that at this show.

Because HISTORICON is a historical miniatures show, and Dragon Dice is not a miniatures game, my events will not be listed in the HISTORICON 2009 convention program. I will have a list of events posted at the On Military Matters booth in the Expo Center (Tennis Barn) at the convention.

One of the events for the beginner/intermediate players will be a Dragon Dice "Regiments" format:
A) 36-health single-race army divided into three 12-health armies, each composed of 1 rare, 2 uncommons, and 5 commons. The rares must all be different.
B) Each terrain starts with a 12-health army, and has a maximum "capacity" of 12-health/player. If additional dice enter play at that terrain (such as through spells), they automatically end up at the Reserve.
C) The Reserve can hold any number of dice, but only up to 12-health can roll for an action.
D) Victory Conditions: Control any two terrains.
E) I will have armies available for new players or players that don't have one.

For those who are interested, you can PM me. I will be at the On Military Matters booth in the Expo Center (Tennis Barn) during the day at the convention.

I know of at least 2 players for Friday and 4 players for Saturday, so if you plan to come to HISTORICON 2009, bring some dice...

There were fewer attendees to the informal Dragon Dice events at HISTORICON 2009 that at COLD WARS 2009.

On Friday, Mike Meusz (Treefolk) and Ed Carmien (Coral Elves) split two games, 1 and 1.

On Saturday, the 4 players I had lined up all decided to do other events, but that gave me the opportunity to do two demonstration games with new players, both whom played out their games. I received several comments from other attendees that seeing Dragon Dice brought back some memories. I asked them to find their dice, download the latest version of the rules from the SFR website, and bring their dice with them to FALL IN 2009, or at one of next year's shows, and look me up.

HISTORICON 2010 is scheduled to be held at the Baltimore Convention Center, which will be a big change. It's already generated a lot of mixed comments, but HMGS East President, Pete Panzeri, seems ready to promote this change which should increase the visibility of historical miniatures gaming.
