What's the best way to play-test a new army? Most efficient? You can't possibly test it against every configuration, so how do you come close?
If this has this been asked before, I apologize. Just curious. Most of my new army constructions die quick and painful deaths. Laughing

When you find out let me know? I tend to be in the same boat when i experiment. there are several tried and true armies and I usually play those if I need to win.

Bruce Parrello had this same question. So he wrote DDAssist. With it, you can build an army, and see what the mean and standard deviation is for any roll. Does that help you go against a random army? No, but at least you can make your army do what you want well. Doesn't mean it can do everything well, there is no such army.

I've used it to make up some "concept" armies. Did they work? Maybe, maybe not. Hard to tell sometimes. I've found that knowing all the capabilities of the races in your army and using them to the max will often make up the difference. Casting the right combination of spells also helps.

Otherwise, you just have to try it and watch it die. Embarassed

I do it the other way. I decide what I want and get the dice that do that.

I found that when you bring a test army to the Worlds...
you get a really good idea if it's good or not...
however,
if it is a good army,
then you really should have been practicing with it so you don't get stuck somewhere and make a mistake.

Most of my world armies are just that...
they are pretty good armies...
and I get pretty far...
if only I would have practiced more.

So like Cliff said...
if you find out let me know.

So if you blind test in the Worlds...
you may unlock things in your army on the fly...
as you are going to be faced with a variety of styles.

I started by copying armies that won.
That seemed safe...
but then I tweak them..
basically to better fit my style of play.

Some tweaks lead me to build newer armies.

So I would suggest downloading some winning armies...and take it from there.
