| How do you deal with a 90% heavy melee with a sprinkle of troll and light melee that hordes up on an 8th face. I keep getting my butt handed to me. I try magic for surgical strikes but he regens,I try missile but he sends heavy melee rares and a troll to bash my archers. I'm at my wits end. |

First of, IANAEP (I am not an experienced player, so these ideas might not work...)
That said, what race(s) are you playing? I imagine the answer lies in using magic to peel away saves, or using magic to back up your archer group with extra saves. You can always pull them back before his units arrive to smash, assuming the terrain was empty on his side when you went in (and also assuming he doesn't path, ferry, or otherwise move units directly).
Q: if the archers move onto a archery face, how are heavy melee much of a threat? Or, is it an 8th face?
Other thoughts,
-If you also play Goblins, use soiled ground to auto bury.
-Get lucky on a Lightning Strike
-Summon Dragons, hope for breath.
-Blizzard (CE) to halve melee results to create an opening to move your entire force (minus the mages that cast blizzard) from reserves in against his force for a glorious show down.
-Black Rain (Stalkers) plus dragon :)
-Flaming Spears (Amazon)
Religious use of spells that bury. |

| I like feral mostly but today I tried dwarves and amazons, he marched right into me, he would even turn his eighth face down to 6 just to con. the fight. |

| Keep in mind your opponent probably reads this forum too, so he may be well prepared for whatever ends being advised to you. That's why I'm going to pm you this next idea... |

It sounds like you have captured an 8th face and then they came to you.
ideally your double saves should help you avoid most damage he could do to you.
However, if you are light on saves or only have a small amount of units there. then don't be afraid of abandoning the 8th face to you.
If he's 90% melee, then he's only offense oriented. He's not going to try to try to hold an 8th face and if he does he's gonna just commit his units to it. There are two other terrains you can work on.
This type of super offensive player requires a different tactic to beat.
first, if you have mages, then turn the terrain down to magic instead of up to an 8th.
second, don't be afraid to run away. If he's nothing but melee and you are a more balanced army, then you shouldn't try to beat him at his strength. Change the parameters of the game to one of your strengths. _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

One other tip: bring ivory dragons. That allows you to pile up your dragons with his, and if he's seriously melee oriented he won;t be summoning them much himself.
Bring terrains that are lighter on melee, so you can stay off the melee faces as much as possible.
Try Scalder missiles, since a melee army has almost no way to hit you with your intangibility. _________________ Steve "DDice" Braun

Sounds like a familiar army...
hehe...
To me it is simple...
don't waste your energy on picking off units in a regen army.
My concept for the Worlds was simple...
both players get an 8th face....
use blue breath to bust the other players 8th face...
so...
Blue Breath/path/flash flood
So now only a slayer is your issue...
so if you send a dragon...
you'll need to rid the slayer as well.
There are many ways that can be done...
but the basic formula is skip the decimation route...
get your 8th.
So I add more saving units...I even use the Mithril Shield.
Perhaps the new Eldarim Champion will suit you. |
