I was just about to buy some Magic items and Artifacts, when I thought "how useful are they and am I going to use them?".
So I just want to know what you all think about MI's and Artifacts? _________________

I frequently use one of the Medallions in most Advanced Game events.
Two players used artifacts during the regional qualifier earlier this year. One of them has also used magic items to good effect in some of last year's events.
I'll use them if I feel they promote one or more of my strategies, but because they cannot be taken as casualties, I'll only use 4-8 health in a 36-health army, but would be more comfortable using more in a Battlefest format (60-health).
I have seen Cliff play with an army that was 50% Bronze Medallions and 50% Lava Elves. I believe that was a Battlefest army, so most (if not all) the Lava Elves were Necromancers. I played against him with this army, hoping to see his strategy develope and break out, but he couldn't get those medallions to roll enough TSR faces to do whatever it was he wanted to do - and we ended up in a tie. _________________ Daniel Burkley

Thanks
Well I decided to get some to try out. I got a bunch of commons and a couple artifacts. Dragon Staff and Blade Golem I had to own, because they looked really cool to me.
They medallions also looked really cool so I got one of each if them too. _________________

| In most of my builds I tend to almost always have at least one some where. There are hardly any ranged monsters worth a damn so trebuchets come in real handy. I find that Undead are not super at magic but if I throw in 9 pts. of magic result magic items it kicks them up to 15 pts. average rolls though not usable in reserves. Medals are killer to be sure and a few races lack in high end melee and melee result items are a great way to produce some more. I would certainly recommend a bank of them you never know. |

The medallions do seem to be the rock-stars of the magical item world having all-SAIs. I really like the idea of magical items, if only thematically, the idea of having my Necromancer wield a Vorpal Sword seems pretty damn cool.
I've seen speed slippers used frequently in builds posted around here - not sure how old those builds are though or if this is still a common practice. I guess the nice thing about a speed slipper is it guarantees you will never choke on a maneuver or counter maneuver roll. |

My sentiments exactly. I mean beyond how they could perform in a army for me. I think having my favorite units carrying cool stuff adds all kinds of flavor to the game. _________________

Bronze and Gold medallions and Dragonstaffs are very common in almost all my builds. I use the bronze to cast enchantments that I would not normally be able to...for example flaming spears on my coral elf units. Gold medallions are great in armies who have little or no ressurection ability. And I cant tell you how many free dragons ive summoned with the staff (dproman knows), plus the fact that the staff doubles and can cast any races magic...uberpower Shazam!. _________________ "Another days useless energy spent."
