Well, miracles do happen. Thanks to new tax laws and loopholes (and an extra deduction born in September), it looks like I'll be able to attend Origins with my son, Jake. Sharing a room with the Braun boys will save a little on the trip, but I hear that Steve snores. So, I'll lose some sleep but have more money for shopping and DICE!
I've never considered myself a competitive player, especially after having had my posterior severely beaten in the CWC on a semi-regular basis, so I kind of doubt I'll be in any of the tournaments. What I'd like to do is hook up with other DD-fanatics for some games on the side just for some fun.
So, is anybody else going that might want to grab a table and make some mayhem? _________________ The Maj

For your information, Joe, I don't snore-I grunt and click loudly, as does my younger son, due to mild apnea. Between the two of us, we'll gove you lots of incentive for late night gaming sessions. If we can get the room we want, we can always host a game or two... |

I'm planning on attending Origins, and if you guys will be patient with me(I'm still learning, and don't even have the terrain names memorized yet, much less instinctively knowing who doubles maneuvers where and which spell does what) I'd love to get some playing in. Maybe as it gets closer, some time and area could be set up?
By the way, does anybody have a suggestion of a cheap place to stay for someone who will have a car and can drive a fair distance(less than 30 min.) to the show everyday? The more money I save, the more dice I can buy! |

Columbus has good motels just off I-70, both on the east side and west side of town, just outside their beltway. I forget their names right now, but they are all the normal major chains. If one gets tired of playing DD you can go to see OSU's football staidum and they have a AAA baseball team. Work used to take me to Columbus about every 3 -4 months, about 10 years ago, so I'm somewhat familiar with the road layout, but the businesses have probably changed some in the meantime. _________________ Michael DeZearn

Do to some conflicting Karate events i would be able to come back East, if i was still in Cinninnati I would have been at both in a heart beat. Oh well 3 days at Universal Hollywood. Besides I live in Vegas, So I hope some day to get all you out here for a CON. Oh well maybe if i play my dice right i'll be out at GenCon. _________________ Got to love wolves, overwelming numbers, act as a team, Nature ready made army.

Well, next time tell them not to hold GAMA the same week as a Nascar event, and I'll be out there. The hotel rates were just too ridiculous to justify going.
Oh, and thanks for the previous poster's comments on motels. Anyone with specific info, I'd appreciate it. Especially info on how the show itself works--24 hrs/day or not, etc... |

The web site is quite informative. http://www.originsgames.com/
It will tell about hotels, food, and of course all the gaming.
They have multiple huge halls designated for types of games. A miniatures hall, collectable card games, table top, war room, roll playing....
It looks as though the DD will be in CCG hall.
It pays to pre register. The long lines will kill you.
24hrs? I think it is. I've never been there much past 11:30pm I've had a couple of tournaments last until 11:00. I got to sleep in order to game all the next day |

If anyone is interested in playing out one of the CWC scenarios we'll have at Origins for free play, here are a few of the armies that are needed in the various scenarios, in case you want to bring your own dice:
The Tulgesh Civil War (2 scenarios so far): 36h, 1/2 magic armies. Minors/kin allowed for all armies.
Matrekites: Mixed Selumari/Amazon, Magestorm items allowed.
Loyalists: Mixed Selumari/Amazon, no Magestorm items allowed.
Flameguard: Mixed Firewalker/Scalder, Magestorm items allowed.
Forestfolk: Mixed Feral/Treefolk, no Magestorm items allowed.
The Northern Rebellion (3 scenarios so far): 36h, 1/2 magic armies. One team scenario. Minors/kin/magic items allowed for all armies.
Morehl
Swamp Stalkers
Trogs
Undead
Mixed Morehl/Undead
Mixed Trogs/Undead
Mixed Swampies/Undead
Once I finish the writeups, I'd be happy to send them to anyone who's thinking of playing. I also hope to have a scenario for the Vagha/Frosties eventually.
(I gave up on my 12-player scenario, and I'm not sure we'll have 12 players anyway. But maybe next year at GenCon...) _________________ Steve "DDice" Braun

| A 12 player scenario? Depending on the die roll, you might never get a turn. If you ever got a 3rd turn then someone isn't trying too hard to win. |

I bet it probably would have been a team game, and include our "home" rule of flanking, or I don't know Steve.

Not exactly. But it would involve some alteration to the standard army movement rules, and due to the victory conditions it could actually take quite a while to finish.
Oh, and one other feature would make it a little tougher: mortal enemies. _________________ Steve "DDice" Braun
