I was curious and couldn't sleep, so I decided to spend a bit of time with a spreadsheet and Wolfram Alpha (to assist with sleep-deprived algebra).

Here's the breakdown:
Average damage for a basic Drake (including 5 breath): 5.7
Average damage for a basic Wyrm (including 5 breath): ~5.56

Average damage for a hybrid Drake (including 10 breath): 6.2
Average damage for a hybrid Wyrm (including 10 breath): ~6.11

Pretty close either way, right? That certainly doesn't tell the whole story, though.

A Wyrm is 11% more likely than a Drake to get a breath effect (1/9 vs. 1/10), but twice as likely as a Drake to deal no damage at all (1/6 vs. 1/12).

Will be back when I'm less tired to give the probabilities of dealing at least N damage.

Note: the drake never does 'no' damage. the wings do damage as it flys away. this was changed a while ago.

also, you could've saved yourself some time on the stats..
http://www.sfr-inc.com/dcm.php

your numbers match mine, but to get the full story, look at the variance as well as the average.

Wyrm = 5.56 +- 3.68
Drake = 5.70 +- 3.22

Based on those, the drake is more consistent and slightly higher, but its less than a result so...

doing your empirical review will be more meaningful to most people.

you also have to consider that the wyrm has a treasure chest. something that can be beneficial to your opponent.

We went through all this math to come up with the changes to Wing. We decided to make the drake (on the average) do slightly more damage to offset the slightly smaller chance of getting a breath. So drakes and wyrms are pretty well balanced now.

So using your math, it seems that hybrid dragons do about 9% (drakes) or 10% (wyrms) more damage. That would seem to support that summoning cost should be slightly higher, like 8 points. However, we were talking about that at the last Windy City Boner Roller's meeting. We were noting that people seem to be bringing less hybrid dragons. The main reason is the one I've been saying all along: people find that they end up facing those hybrids more often than putting them on other people. Now one thing that may make that happen is that we tend to have 4-player games all the time there. So you have more opponents that you would have in a 2-player game. So maybe in multi-player hybrids are a bigger drawback than an asset. In 2-player games, the opposite may be true.

Does that mean it's a problem? No, it just means that it's another variable to consider when constructing your armies.

Belly does damage now? I apparently missed this change.
