So, you wanna get the best magic rolls ever? To start, have 50% mages. This is obvious.
Avoid Monsters generally, because even the best monsters are only 50% magic. Most mage units are 67% capable.
Now, your other 50% should be components that activate during a magic action that dont actually cast. Trolls/Gold medallions are great. Trolls are actually better though, if you think about it. Yes, the res effect is 25% on a medal and only 20% on a troll, but the face ID on a troll raises him to 30% (5%) over gold medal.
Sneak attack is another good one. Be sure to use elemental Eldarim champions though, for the 2 point face ID in casting bonus. An elemental dragon hunter is 50% usable in a magic action and does not count toward your 50% magic.
Wild growth is another goody. It works on dragonkin. So, if you summon 1 health of dragonkin with a spell then wildgrowth can do the rest in subsequent magic actions. When its fully promoted you need only to summon a health one more time.
Fairy/Teleport may save you those much needed points on path, and you can cast windwalk on a newly created army in the same magic action to boot. Though this is not particularly as good as maximizing a magic action as other units, strategically it has its advantages.
Finally, remember that some dice dont always cost the full amount of mage points as it is in health. If your like most people and start w/a 17/1/18 or any combination of that setup thereof and you happen to bring an Owl - Folk, make that 1 health solo unit a mage. As Owl's only take up 3 of the 4 points of mages (This also maximizes your horde rold with 18 points). Owls and Vampires are among the more useful ones to note but there is a large list of them. _________________ Will

Hold on a second. The ID on a Troll doesn't "raise him to 30%". We're talking about Regenerate. It might make him have a 30% useful roll during magic, but the medallion still has better Regenerate chance, and it's all SAI. Troll can be targeted by lots of things, but can also be used in reserves.
Between the two, I feel it's a wash.

Agreed that Sneak Attack is useful. Disagree on elemental champions. Stick to the ivory, because they provide defense against all colors of dragons, and the ID can produce any color. |

I am not comparing White Eldarim vs Elemental Eldarim in strength. Again, just referring to maximizing magic actions. _________________ Will

Are you simply focused on the magic action itself, or also focusing on a smart play? I mean, you could take all Eldarim Dragonhunters and slap them all with a Ring of Stars if your only goal is rolling lots of faces that do something during a magic roll. That'd mean a lot of magic results and a lot of non-magic results that work during a magic roll. It doesn't make it the right play, but it maximizes the number of relevant faces during that specific action type.

Again, you're missing the forest for the trees. Yes, Choice A has a better chance of rolling something useful during a magic action. However Option B is better most of the rest of the time. It's just like the Troll/Medallion. Yes, the Troll has a better chance of rolling something during that specific action. Does that make him the right choice? Not necessarily, because you have to look at the larger picture, beyond the scope of one action type. |

Actually, running 4 Zealots with 50% mages is not a bad way to go. Provide those useful saves and really maximize your casting. _________________ Will
