I'm curious if anybody here is going to be at BGGCon 2012? This will be my first year going, and also my first con I'm going to. I don't know if I'll be able to make any other cons this year, so if anybody is making this one, maybe we can meet up and play Dragon Dice in person. |

I'm not aware of anyone officially going, but some 'friends' of dragondice will likely be there (and you'd walk right past them without knowing it).
Its in mid november right? horrible time to take off work with a week of vacation coming up in the same month. _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

Yeah, the timing of the event is horrible. Nov 14-18 with Thanksgiving the following week...
But fortunately for me, I will probably be moving around that time, officially around Thanksgiving time. So I plan on taking PTO through BGGCon and Thanksgiving. Give myself an extended vacation. |

Just over a month away! I made contact with somebody who recently got into Dragon Dice that I may meet at BGG.Con. Again, let me know if you're coming and want to play. I'll be bringing my dice. _________________ Collection |

I am getting excited for this! (Even though I'm the only one posting who's going).
I currently have 3 people interested in learning/playing, and the con is still two weeks away. Dave is helping me by setting me up with a goblin/dwarf demo playset (much better than my elf demo playset I finally completed), and some handouts for participants.
Also, if anyone happens to be in Dallas area the week before Thanksgiving, you can still get a ticket (TODAY ONLY). Somebody can't go and is selling their ticket. I want to meet more Dragon Dicers and play at the con!

Well, the trip was very successful. I have a close friend who wanted me to teach him and his wife. We came close several times, and I even started explaining once, but we didn't make it. But it's high on his list (as well as the list of several gamers I know on BGG but not locally).
But I did end up meeting with 2 of the people I had been talking with, plus 1 more guy who wanted to learn the game. Using the rep tools and demo playmats, I set up 2 1v1 games. I played dwarves against goblins. And next to me we had coral elves vs lava elves. The 2 guys I originally taught with brought their massive collections, but didn't know much about how to play, so we just used my demo army dice.
The elves finished first. Towards the end of my game, I rolled 8 magic, and figured I'd show how dragons work and summoned a dragon to the frontier terrain. I chose not to retreat, as winning wasn't strictly my goal. It ended up wiping out his army, and then on my turn, dealing 21 damage to me and wiping out my army. That left us with one unit each at opposite terrains. I had a tower, so I took a pot-shot at him and won. Close match.
We ended up playing a couple more 3-person games (the new player loved it, but left to continue with other gaming). I got demolished by the players both times fairly quickly. They made great use of dragons against me. I gave them a copy of the rulebooks from the current starters, to have more current rules than what they currently have, as well as some army cards. I'm excited to have shared this with people who already have collections, and they plan on teaching their kids now! _________________ Collection |

Congrats! sounds like you had a lot of fun!
This is exactly how the game grows, by each individual player taking the take to teach others and be seen visibly playing. _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |
