Years ago, the Dragon Dice listserve had the International Dragon Dice League and an associated tournament. Everyone grouped up into teams of 3 members and fought to the death to be crowned the winningest group of them all.

It is time to revive this old tournament with the first Periodic Games. All games should be played out either on the SFR forum or by e-mail. If you wish to play in another format, say in person, please let me know before the game.

Rules
Current Rulebook (v2.6)
Standard Construction Rules
24-points Armies
10 points of Reserve Dice used to exchange between games.
Teams of 2 players to speed up games
First team to have a single player capture two terrain or eliminate all players of the opposing team wins.

Additionally, there are a few time rules.

If any player does not respond within 1 day without notice, the player will have their entire army consumed by a Giant Space Hamster. Any terrain controlled by that player are moved down to the 7th face.

All teams must have started their game within 2 days of each round. They will also agree upon what method the game will use.

Initially, there will be one bracket of randomly assigned teams. However, once the first round of games are played, all of the teams that lost in the first round will go into the Second Chance bracket to duke it out for the title of Comeback Kid. The winning team of the main bracket will be declared winner of the Periodic Games and will square off against the winners of the Second Chance bracket to be declared the Grand Champion of the Periodic Games.

Registration is simple, you and your teammate will respond to the post and optionally name your team. All interested teams must be declared by June 1. The tournament will start June 2 and last until a winner is declared.

Will there be glory? Of course! Will there be triumph? Definitely. Will there be riches? Not from me. I may give you all a high five if we ever met up in person. Why play at all? You will have an opportunity to play in an organized event with fellow Dragon Dice players from around the world.

I was thinking recently that a Dragon Dice forum tournament would be fun. I'm on another game site, Arimaa, that does various tournaments throughout the year and it sparks a lot of activity from its members. I really like this idea and that you are re-sparking tournaments.

Now I would just need a partner. Who wants to team up with a ridiculously inexperienced player who's never played a forum game? Razz

Wooh! I will play! Notice that the team-part is still missing, so anyone willing to join me in a team is welcome.

I don't quite get the the 10 dice reserves just yet. Is this like a kind of 'sideboard' thing? Or a pool of stuff you might use to replace stuff you didn't like in the first battle?

Also, the Dragon Dice Vassal mod might be interesting for this event, as it's quite a bit quicker than the ol' reliable forum battles.

Yes, sideboard is the word that escaped me! Vassal would probably suitable, too. I only threw the Forum out there because I don't always have continuous time to play a game.

I'm definitely in, though I think I missed the part about a teammate. How does that work?

I suppose it's an 'ordinary' 2 v 2 game.

Hmm, I've never played teams. That should be very interesting. How exactly does team play work? (Or what page is it on in the rulebook?)

Team rules can be found in the Tournament Rules document which is here. Look on page 15.

Uhg.... I dont wanna do this but I am in. Are you guys doing this 100% by Mr. Pints rules? I have been hosting team games a long time and hashed out a few things. Though either way... Count me in, if you dare...

We are only going to follow the portion about teams that he specifically referenced. The rest are the rules as I had stated.

Looks like I'll need a partner. Though I've never played a team game, so I don't know how much help I will be.
Skawilly you interested? Mr. Green

Awesome, now all we need is a team name that strikes fear into the heart of others. Something like Team Yellow Snow. Laughing

Teams:
Funky, Berlinetta
Caranmegil, Dolus
MM, Skawilly

We need more teams! There's about 3 weeks left to sign up. Cliff and Chuck can form a team. Wink

If we end up with just 3 teams, what about changing the format to round-robin?
