Hello All!

Wow! What a whirlwind of a weekend! Shocked This was our third year at PAX Prime and it was amazing! First off, I have to thank my 3 wonderful volunteers, Alex, Sean and Nathan! Thank You guys very much! PAX would not have been the success that it was without you! Alex learned DD on Thursday, but you sure couldn't tell that by watching him. He was very professional and relaxed, and he put others at ease (I usually come across as Mr. high-pressure sales without meaning to), so it was great to have him there, doing what he does best-demoing! Very Happy Sean, learned DD on Friday (first day of PAX) and was demoing a very short time later and doing an excellent job! He also has a very nice collection started (because he kept buying dice on his breaks Laughing ) Nathan was essential during our first ever PAX tournament (we had 20 promises but only 6 people show up, 3 of which were brand new to DD). So, we were actually demoing/teaching/coaching throughout the tournament. This is where Nathan is best, either playing in or working at a tournament, encouraging others, pointing out strategies. It was still a good event, but we can definitely make it better for next year. Thank you again, I couldn't have done it with out you!

PAX Prime tickets sold out in 5 hours (way back in MAY! Shocked ), and now I think we know why. Some thought it was because of League of Legends scheduling a tourney before tickets went on sale, but I think people finally figured out that PAX is a GAMING convention, not just a VIDEO GAMING convention. Table Tops was crazy busy this year, and we ought to know, because we were 15 feet from the door of the game library! Laughing Table Top games were so popular this year that they (PAX) had to have events and another library at one of the near-by hotels! Although DD sales weren't what I had hoped, it was still a very successful convention! We met a lot of folks who had done demos 2 years ago and came back for more this year! I think the theme that I got from this convention is consistency! People have noticed/seen us for the last 3 years, now they are going to expect us to be there! I think I'm/we're stuck doing this for a while! Very Happy

I have to tell you one of my most favorite memories this year was Friday afternoon when I was caught working by one of the SFR bosses! Laughing
Scott just happened to be in Seattle, so he attended PAX for the day. It was such a surprise to turn around and see him standing there grinning!
I hadn't seen him in 2 years, so it was great to 'catch up' on things. It was a great visit! Thank you Scott!

I'm pretty sure I forgot some details and events, but I'll leave that to others to comment on. I will say this, next year, we will need more volunteers! Don't think that you need to devote the whole weekend to demoing, if you can volunteer for one day, that would be great! So, please start making plans for next year, try to come out and help us, it will be a great time!

Thanks again to everyone who made PAX PRIME 2012 a success! The volunteers and the attendees! Very Happy

-Dave

I was one of the unsuspecting masses that was snared by Dave. I actually bought Dragon Dice the first year it was shown at PAX (10) but was unable to actually sit down for a demo as it was an impulse buy as I was walking out the door. My fiance and I went home after buying it and found the rule book frustrating and it sat dormant for two years.

This year, we saw the Dragon Dice table just outside Uncle's Games. I happen to be good friends with one of the manager's for the Uncle's Games in the area and so we were there a lot. By Saturday evening I decided I wanted to do a proper demo and understand how exactly one plays Dragon Dice; I was not disappointed. My fiance and I spent about two hours Saturday night with Dave and the other demo folks picking their brains and trying out the game. I felt I had a pretty good handle on it by then and went home pondering the intricacies of the game.

I came back on Saturday and spent part of the morning talking with Dave about some of the more intricate details of the game, trying to understand exactly what I was getting myself into. I play Magic (MTG) very casually and am perpetually frustrated by the continuously changing collections. Dave assuaged my fears about a continually changing collection of dice that I have to keep up with in order to play. Dave even traded some dice with me to help round out my collection.

My fiance and I are going to try and pick this up and get it down a little better. I think if the interest holds, we'll want to demo next year Smile. Thanks again Dave, your enthusiasm and friendliness helped us renew our interest in a game I had written off as too complex (though it is a bit complex, just not in the bad way:))

Well I'm late to the topic as usual but I will most certainly be volunteering next year. I'm making it a serious mission to get dragon dice hopping and popping in King county.
