I was thinking about somethings SFR had discussed in the past. I'm just wondering what the current ruling of Hide and SAIs.
So, For example. I have a common cav that has hide cast on it. The opposing army attacks with melee and rolls a smite. Does the smite go through hide, since SAIs are not supposed to be affected by magic? Or since the re-writting of hide, it can't be taken as a loss over ride?
I'm no rules lawyer, but this is a sticky situation.

The way I understand it is this:
In this case the unit is affected by magic (by the "hide" spell), not the SAI.
Since the unit can't be seen, you have no target for the "smite". The spell has no effect on the SAI since you can't use the SAI at all without having a target.
It would be different if the spell would say e.g. "half the damage taken" or "reduce the damage to zero". In that case the SAI (or: it's damage) would be affected because the spell get's it's effect after it was spoken (and again and again whenever damage is done to the unit as long as the spell is active). And this wouldn't be allowed by the rules.
So: Since there's no target you can't use the SAI and there-fore the SAI (or in this case: it's damage) isn't affected.
(Yawn! I shouldn't try to answer questions like this right after jumping out of bed in the early morning and without having had my first two cups of coffee! Could I make myself clear??) _________________

Hide makes the unit untargetable. Any spell that affects an unit, or any SAI that affects an unit, simply cannot target a hidden unit. If the spell or SAI targets an army, then only non-hidden units can roll saves (if allowed), and only non-hidden units can take damage. The spell is not effecting the SAI, the spell simply does not allow the unit to be targeted. The key part of the spell is "(unit) cannot be taken as a loss to account for damage". So if you melee an army that consists of only hidden unit(s), the only SAIs that will have any real affect are those that effect other armies or things like Cantrip, Regenerate, etc. On the other hand, even if an army has only hidden unit(s), it's still an army. So it can attempt maneuver rolls. That army simply cannot roll it's hidden units. But Wind Walks count since it's a spell cast on an army.
Elemental Blast is the bane of Hide. However, note that an army cannot Elemental Blast away a Hide, and the Firebolt it in the same magic action. The target must exist when the spells are announced. Hide simply makes an unit untargetable. _________________ You can never have too many dice.

OK, so nothing can target it. And elemental blast works because it targets the spell and not the unit. OK, I know where we are now.
