Is it just me or have the 3.0 rules discussions been taken down?

They got moved to a hidden place. They were not useful where they were.

Is there a place where lowly peasants can make suggestions for future rule changes? The more input the merrier I say, because you never know where a good idea will come from!

Speaking of suggestions, here are my humble submissions:

Web: This SAI seems very underpowered. if you generated normal melee results instead, they would get saves instead of a maneuver roll but would then be dead instead of just "locked" for a turn. My friends and I would rather have normal melee results than this stinker.

Simply changing this SAI to work for both melee and missile attacks would make it a lot more useful, but not overpowered by any means.

Surprise: The purpose of this SAI is to protect the attacking army in melee, but it does a very poor job. Attacking a superior force in melee and hoping to get surprise is generally a bad idea, while attacking an inferior force makes this SAI unnecessary. It doesn't contribute when counterattacking, or anything other time. Why not just grant saves instead?

My suggestion would be to keep it the same but adding a reroll. Multiple rolls of surprise would not keep adding damage like rend or double strike do, so this would be relatively safe while giving this SAI a chance to be more useful.

Hell Hound: Isn't it strange that this canine is not a group icon, but the frostwing wolf is? While I am making suggestions, please consider being consistent and making this one a group monster as well. It could use the help!

Campaign Tower: I always thought it was strange that a tower granted no additional effect when captured at the campaign location. Right now at that location its used as a denial tool, which seems to be poor design (not anyone's fault at all).

May I suggest it grant some kind of additional benefit, such as letting one unit reroll and take the new result when making a missile attack? Again, this bonus would only apply to a campaign tower terrain that has been captured- home towers would be unaffected.

I know how much this community cares about dragon dice, and we are all trying to make it better. Please take these suggestions in the spirit in which they were offered Smile

I would like to see web be used against flying somehow...

What is going into the rules redesign? Is this simply a reorganization of what is already there? I am still learning the game, and the rulebook is a bit difficult to work through. It was be awesome if the text was modernized. Having flavor text smaller and italized, important information called out in pop out boxes, etc. I think that the look and feel of the rulebook is part of the barrier to entry for the game.

Providing a separate text that guided new players through the game would be good too. I know that the base rule book has plenty of examples, but it would be nice if there was a game guide. For example: having the first game be a small army with no magic and no dragons; Second game with a larger army with a dragon; Third game adds in full magic.

I have some technical questions about the rules, namely: how are they written? I mean which program do you use to write them? Are they latex? .docs ?
How are the releases being handled?

I'm asking this as I've an half-idea to translate them once the version 3 is published, but I'd like to know in advance how the releases will be held, so I'd like to know:

- latex/docs/whatever
- future changes will be released as patches? (if it makes sense for a doc, that is...)
- do you have a plan on how to deal with future releases? (like highlighting of modified/added sections ? )
- how have been done this before?
- will the rules have some graphical layout? In such a case, will there be a printer-friendly version?

Thanks,
Danilo

Excellent questions and I can say that for some of them We just don't know yet.

The rules are the way they are for a reason, so we have to be sure not to repeat past mistakes as we change them again.

The intention is to clean up the presentation and make minor tweaks, but nothing major that would change the game from what it is.

They are written in an Adobe product, not easy to port to anything else.

Traditionally we post a new PDF and summarize the changes in our online forum. My hope is that we won't have a lot of patches, maybe once a year just to add the newly printed dice.

Which Adobe product, acrobat?

So you are planning to reuse the present rules, revisiting them but using the same "source" document, right?

The rules are currently in InDesign, Adobe's publishing software.
