A Dwarf Wizard unit get a Lightning Strike so roll save and rolls cantrip:

This is actually legal. cantrip breaks time in the middle of a roll to let you cast a spell. It is not a "magic action" or a new phase.

Think of it this way:

+I need to make a roll for 'X'
+I roll the dice
+I apply any ID,SAI,etc.
+I count the results

So in this case you are rolling just one die and you have to resolve the SAI's prior to actually checking to see if you survived or not.

btw, what you can not do is use Path to survive a lightning strike. it is targeting the unit, not the army and moving the unit doesn't untarget it.
if something targeted the army (like 500 Hailstorms), then pathing the unit out of the army allows it to avoid the hailstorms.
